چکیده

While anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy affords patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) a dramatically improved prognosis compared to all prior treatments, the chronic nature of the disease and the uncertainties regarding long-term dosing strategies represent important therapeutic challenges. Large randomized trials established the efficacy and safety of ranibizumab, bevacizumab, and aflibercept for the treatment of neovascular AMD, yet these studies offered little insight into the optimal dosing regimen for individual patients or how to manage patients after 2 years of intensive therapy. Unfortunately, the data regarding long-term outcomes for anti-VEGF therapy suggest that deviations from close monitoring and/or injections, even after 2 years, will likely result in an accelerated rate of vision loss in many eyes.1 Individualizing the intravitreal anti-VEGF dosing regimen for long-term management of neovascular AMD

Sustained increased intraocular pressure related to intravitreal antivascular endothelial growth factor therapy for neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

PURPOSE To describe a series of previously normotensive eyes experiencing sustained elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with long-term intravitreal antivascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). PATIENTS AND METHODS Clinical data were reviewed for 25 eyes of 23 patients with neovascular AMD who had increased IOP while r...

Incidence of ocular hypertension after intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF agents in the treatment of neovascular AMD

Purpose. The assessment of the incidence of ocular hypertension over a period of 1 year in patients treated with multiple intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF agents for neovascular AMD. Methods. The study comprised 58 eyes diagnosed with neovascular age-related macular degeneration and receiving PRN intravitreal treatment with anti-VEGF agents (bevacizumab or aflibercept). The follow-up period...

Aflibercept for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) can have devastating effects on vision, especially in its neovascular form. In the last decade, the use of intravitreal pharmacotherapy targeted to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has significantly improved the visual outcomes in patients with neovascular AMD. Although we have become accustomed to these unprecedented improvement outcomes, maintai...

Pharmacogenetic associations with long-term response to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor treatment in neovascular AMD patients

PURPOSE To investigate the pharmacogenetic associations between the genetic risk variants of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and long-term outcome after intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment in Korean neovascular AMD patients. METHODS This prospective study included 394 treatment-naïve patients (394 eyes) that underwent intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment f...

New Approach of Anti-VEGF Agents for Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of legal blindness in the elderly in the industrialized world and the third major cause of blindness around the globe. Although neovascular AMD is less prevalent than atrophic AMD, it accounts for most cases with severe visual loss from AMD. VEGF seems to be a key contributary factor in the pathophysiology underlying neovascular AMD. Unt...
