Selenium (Se) and the risk of breast, ovarian and prostate cancers

چکیده
Material and methods Eight genotypes of 4 most common SNPs localised in GPX1, GPX4, TXNRD2 and SEP15 were selected. Genotyping was performed in 93 affected and 186 unaffected matched BRCA1 carriers as well as on pairs matched 1:1 consisting of 108 breast, 50 ovarian and 105 prostate consecutive cancer patients and healthy controls. The following techniques for laboratory analyses have been applied: a) sequencing on ABI310, b) SimpleProbe or TaqMan analysis (a melting-curve genotyping with fluorescence-labeled probes based on the LightCycler 480 System (Roche Applied Science), c) determination of selenium concentration in plasma using atomic absorption spectrometer AAnalyst600 (Perkin Elmer).

Selenium and cancer risk in CHEK2 mutation carriers
Checkpoint kinase 2 (CHEK2) is as an important signal transducer of cellular responses to DNA damage and acts as a tumour suppressor gene. Mutations in the CHEK2 gene have been shown to be associated with increased risks to several cancers. In Poland four mutations in CHEK2 gene (1100delC, IVS2+1G>A, I157T, del5395) have been identified. Studies on our population provided evidence that CHEK2 tr...
متن کاملProspective clinical trials on correlations between macro-/ microelements and vitamins and cancer risk
There is no doubt that several macro-/microelements and vitamins are key features to prevent malignancies in experimental studies on animals. Literature data and results of our own studies are strongly suggesting that for malignancies characterized by strong contribution of inflammatory response to environmental carcinogens such as lung, colorectal or prostate cancers, penetrance level can be r...
متن کاملExploring the spatial patterns of three prevalent cancer latent risk factors in Iran; Using a shared component model
Background and aims: The aim of this study was the modeling of the incidence rates of Colorectal, breast and prostate cancers using a shared component model in order to explore the spatial pattern of their shared risk factors (i.e., obesity and low physical activity) affecting on cancer incidence, and also to estimate the relative weight of these shared components. Methods: In this study,...
متن کاملCan selenium be a modifier of cancer risk in CHEK2 mutation carriers?
Selenium is an essential trace element for humans, playing an important role in various major metabolic pathways. Selenium helps to protect the body from the poisonous effects of heavy metals and other harmful substances. Medical studies have provided evidence of selenium supplementation in preventing certain cancers. Low and too high selenium (Se) status correlates with increased risk of e.g. ...

Background: Infertility is an important and common problem in couples that needs to assisted reproductive technology (ART) or the other drug therapies. Infertility has been known as a risk factor for ovarian cancer, breast cancer and endometrial cancer but there is a question about the relationship of these cancers to infertility itself or drugs and methods of infertility treatment. Materials a...
