Simultaneous retrieval of oceanic and atmospheric parameters for ocean color imagery by spectral optimization: a validation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report application and validation of a spectral optimization algorithm for processing SeaWiFS data in Case 1 waters. The algorithm couples a simplified aerosol model with a sophisticated water-reflectance model to simultaneously retrieve both atmospheric and ocean parameters. Two of the retrieved ocean properties—the absorption coefficient of colored detrital material and the chlorophyll a concentration—are validated by comparison with ‘‘surface’’ truth obtained with airborne and space-borne sensors. We show that employing a more complete water reflectance model significantly improves the decoupling between the oceanic and atmospheric optical signals. Methodologies for applying the algorithm to Case 2 waters and for delineating terrestrial vs. marine chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) are suggested. D 2002 Elsevier Science Inc. Hyper spectral remote sensing imagery, due to its rich source of spectral information provides an efficient tool for ground classifications in complex geographical areas with similar classes. Referring to robustness of Support Vector Machines (SVMs) in high dimensional space, they are efficient tool for classification of hyper spectral imagery. However, there are two optimization issues which s...
متن کاملPitfalls in atmospheric correction of ocean color imagery: how should aerosol optical properties be computed?: reply to comment
Gordon Appl. Opt. 42, 542 2003 argues that use of external rather than internal mixing when aerosol optical properties are computed will not seriously affect atmospheric correction of ocean color imagery, in spite of the fact that top of the atmosphere reflectances computed with the two approaches differ significantly as shown by Yan et al. Appl. Opt. 41, 412 2002 . We apply an algorithm for si...
متن کاملContribution of Ultraviolet and Shortwave Infrared Observations to Atmospheric Correction of PACE Ocean-Color Imagery
The Pre-Aerosol, Cloud, and ocean Ecosystem (PACE) mission will carry into space a spectrometer measuring at 5 nm resolution in the ultraviolet (UV) to near infrared (NIR) and at lower resolution in spectral bands in the NIR and shortwave infrared (SWIR). These observations have great potential for improving estimates of marine reflectance in the post-EOS era. In view of this, we evaluate, usin...
متن کاملFields of non-linear regression models for atmospheric correction of satellite ocean-color imagery
Remote sensing of ocean color from space, a problem that consists in retrieving spectral marine reflectance from spectral top-of-atmosphere reflectance, is considered as a collection of similar inverse problems continuously indexed by the angular variables influencing the observation process. A general solution is proposed in the form of a field of non-linear regression models over the set T of...
متن کاملStatistical modeling of the association between pervasive precipitation anomalies in Southern Alburz and global ocean-atmospheric patterns
Precipitation patterns are influenced by many factors, such as global atmospheric circulations to name but one. Precipitation patterns in Iran have always had great fluctuations even in a smaller scale like the Alburz Mountain Range. The present research has tried to find the relationship between global atmospheric patterns and the pervasive precipitation ones in Alburz. For doing so, 17 climat...
