Preoperative pillow placement under the injured extremity had better analgesic effects than skin traction for hip fracture.

چکیده
Intervention Preoperatively, patients were allocated to have a pillow placed under the ipsilateral thigh of the injured hip in the resting position of the extremity (n=50, pillow group) or to placement of 5 pounds of skin traction, applied by fitting a foam traction boot to the injured extremity and then suspending a 5 pound weight over a pulley at the foot of the bed (n=50, traction group). All patients received standardised pain medication as needed.

متن کاملSkin traction and placebo effect in the preoperative pain control of patients with collum and intertrochanteric femur fractures.
BACKGROUND Proximal femur fractures are one of the most common injuries necessitating operative treatment. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate and compare the possible effects of the preoperative application of a skin traction device, with or without weights, on pain relief in patients with acute proximal femur fracture. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study included 108 pre-operativ...
متن کاملComparison between the effects of preoperative skin traction and under knee pillow on pain relief in the patients with proximal femoral fracture
Background and Aim: Proximal femoral fracture is one of the most common fractures, especially among elderly people. Skin and skeletal traction are usually used to reduce the pain in the patients before surgery. In this study we investigated the effects of skin traction and use of pillow under knee before surgery on pain relief in the patients with proximal femoral fracture. Material and Methods...

UNLABELLED An unknown percentage of patients who have internal fixation for hip fractures have sciatic neuropathy develop. In most cases, the cause for this complication is unknown. We retrospectively reviewed 2202 consecutive patients treated in our hospital for hip fractures to ascertain whether there was any relationship between duration of preoperative traction and postoperative sciatic neu...
