Magnetic resonance and sonographic imagings of masticatory muscle myalgia in temporomandibular disorder patients

چکیده
This article reviews recently published studies investigating the MRI and sonographic diagnosis of masticatory muscle myalgia in temporomandibular disorder patients. The MRI and sonographic features of muscle after treatment are also discussed. Literature published within the last 15 years was obtained from the PubMed database using the following Mesh terms: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or sonography, masticatory muscle pain, and treatment. MRI and sonography enable accurate visualization and evaluation of the masticatory muscles, thereby increasing our understanding of pathology and cause of pain associated with these muscles. Although therapeutic efficacy is often evaluated based on clinical findings, MR and sonographic imaging studies may also be valuable.

بررسی شدت نسبی سیگنال تصاویر Magnetic Resonance در بافت رترودیسکال و عضله پتریگوئید خارجی و رابطه آن با یافتههای Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Background and Aims: Disc displacement is the most common temporomandibular joint disorder and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard in its diagnosis. This disorder can lead to changes in signal intensity of magnetic resonance (MR). The purpose of this study was evaluation of correlation between relative signal intensity of MR images of retrodiscal tissue, superior and inferior ...
متن کاملBotulinum Toxin Type a for the Management of Masticatory Muscle Pain in Temporomandibular Disorders: A Systematic Review
Background: Botulinum toxin type A (BoT-A) has gained significant clinical interest in the management of masticatory muscle pain in temporomandibular disorders (TMD). This may be due to clinical success of BoT-an in treatment of other neuromuscular and refractory chronic pain disorders in the head and neck region, and the limited understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of masticatory mu...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The aim of this study was to assess the association between the clinical and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) findings in relation to bony changes in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD).METHODS: According to the research diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorder (RDC/TMD), forty-one patients with type II TMD (42 TM joints) and type III TMD (40 TM joi...
متن کاملLimited mouth opening with a square mandible configuration: a case of masticatory muscle tendon-aponeurosis hyperplasia
Most clinicians throughout the world are probably unaware of the existence of masticatory muscle tendon-aponeurosis hyperplasia (MMTAH), potentially leading to misdiagnoses such as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). Here, we introduce this disease from the viewpoint of education. In February 2013, a 39-year-old woman presented with limited mouth opening. Her facial configuration was charac...
متن کاملExcitability of the central masticatory pathways in patients with painful temporomandibular disorders.
Much is unclear about the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying painful temporomandibular disorders. In addition to various other theories, masticatory muscle dysfunction and pain have also been attributed to primary central nervous system hyperactivity. We assessed this possibility in a study using recent neurophysiological techniques. From among outpatients whose diagnosis of temporomandib...
