چکیده

The self-gravitating instability of a compressible-inviscid fluid cylinder immersed into a self-gravitating tenuous medium of negligible motion is developed. The stability criterion is derived based on the linear perturbation technique. Some previous reported works are recovered. The effect of different factors on the fluid cylinder instability is discussed. The compressibility has a tendency for a stabilizing the model in particular as the sound speed a is very large in the stable domains 1.0233928 ≤ x < ∞ but comparatively small in the unstable domains 0 < x < 1.0233928 where x = kR 0 is the dimensionless longitudinal wavenumber with k is the axial wavenumber and R 0 is the radius of the cylinder. In the absence of the compressibility factor the unstable domain is found to be 0 < x < 1.0678. Key-words: Compressibility, Selfgravitational , Instability.

Local stability criterion for self-gravitating disks in modified gravity

We study local stability of self-gravitating fluid and stellar disk in the context of modified gravity theories which predict a Yukawa-like term in the gravitational potential of a point mass. We investigate the effect of such a Yukawa-like term on the dynamics of self-gravitating disks. More specifically, we investigate the consequences of the presence of this term for the local stability of t...

A linear stability analysis has been performed onto a self-gravitating magnetized gas disk bounded by external pressure. The resulting dispersion relation is fully explained by three kinds of instability: a Parker-type instability driven by self-gravity, usual Jeans gravitational instability and convection. In the direction parallel to the magnetic fields, the magnetic tension completely suppre...

Equilibrium configurations of fluids and their stability in higher dimensions

We study equilibrium shapes, stability and possible bifurcation diagrams of fluids in higher dimensions, held together by either surface tension or self-gravity. We consider the equilibrium shape and stability problem of self-gravitating spheroids, establishing the formalism to generalize the MacLaurin sequence to higher dimensions. We show that such simple models, of interest on their own, als...

A Wave-Mechanical Approach to Cosmic Structure Formation

The dynamical equations describing the evolution of a self-gravitating fluid can be rewritten in the form of a Schrödinger equation coupled to a Poisson equation determining the gravitational potential. This wave-mechanical representation allows an approach to cosmological gravitational instability that has numerous advantages over standard fluid-based methods. We explore the usefulness of the ...

Local stability of self - gravitating fluid disks made of two components in relative motion

Context. We consider a simple self-gravitating disk, made of two fluid components characterized by different effective thermal speeds and interacting with one another only through gravity; two-component models of this type have often been considered in order to estimate the impact of the cold interstellar medium on gravitational instabilities in star-dominated galaxy disks. Aims. This simple mo...
