Studies on chronic cor pulmonale with special reference to coronary circulation.

چکیده
CCORDING to the report of an Expert Committee of World Health Organization in 1961,1) chronic cor pulmonale is defined as hypertrophy of the right ventricle resulting from diseases affecting the function and/or the structure of the lung, except when these pulmonary alternations are the result of diseases that primarily affect the left side of the heart or of congenital heart disease. Therefore, increase in pulmonary vascular resistance and pulmonary arterial hypertension arising from the structural change or dysfunction of the lung are naturally considered to play the most important role in the developement of cor pulmonale. However, little is known about the status of the left ventricle in cor pulmonale. The author performed the following experiments in order to study the coronary circulation and the left ventricular function in chronic cor pulmonale.

Left ventricular function, metabolism, and blood flow in chronic cor pulmonale.
Left ventricular function, oxidative metabolism, and coronary blood flow were evaluated in 11 patients with chronic cor pulmonale (mean age 53 years) at rest and during stress, and compared with 11 normal subjects (mean age 29 years) studied under similar conditions. The left ventricles of patients with chronic cor pulmonale were normal in regard to contractile state, preload, afterload, corona...

The coronary blood flow was determined in 9 individuals with pulmonary emphysema alone and emphysema with cor pulmonale. Intracardiac pressures, cardiac output and pulmonary functions were also studied. In S of the 9 cases coronary blood flow was within the normal range. In one case with a high cardiac output the coronary blood flow was elevated in proportion. The presence of cor pulmonale did ...
متن کاملThe cardiac output in chronic cor pulmonale.
A comparative study was made of the resting cardiac index in 12 cases of chronic cor pulmonale, in 14 normal subjects, and in 10 patients suffering from heart failure due to vascular or valvular disease. The mean cardiac index in the subjects with chronic cor pulmonale was significantly higher than in the group with other types of heart disease and was significantly lower than in the normal ind...
