Establishment of Three Diploid Cell Lines of Anopheles Stephensi (diptera: Culicidae)
نویسنده
چکیده
The culture of insect tissues in vitro offers considerable potential for studying many aspects of the pathogenic cycles of protozoan, bacterial, and viral agents which have an insect vector or reservoir . Studies directed toward this end have been limited in number since the culture of insect cells has, in itself, been a very difficult task (2, 8, 13) . Progress in this field was not too encouraging until the work of Grace demonstrated the feasibility of obtaining both long-term primary cultures and continuous cell lines of insect origin (5-7) . Following this lead, insect cell lines have now been reported for 9 genera and 13 species (1, 3 9, 10, 12) . This report describes the establishment of 3 additional cell lines originating from larval tissues of the mosquito Anopheles stephensi which is the vector both in nature and in the laboratory for a number of malaria parasites .

Laboratory and semi-field evaluation of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bioflash®) against Anopheles stephensi (Diptera: Culicidae) in an endemic malarious area of Iran
Background: Anopheles stephensi is considered to be the main malaria vector in the Middle East area including Iran. We aimed to evaluate the efficiency of a granule 10% formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis against this species under laboratory and semi-field conditions in an endemic malarious area of Iran. Method: After collecting mosquitos ...
متن کاملArtificial activation of mature unfertilized eggs in the malaria vector mosquito, Anopheles stephensi (Diptera, Culicidae).
In the past decade, many transgenic lines of mosquitoes have been generated and analyzed, whereas the maintenance of a large number of transgenic lines requires a great deal of effort and cost. In vitro fertilization by an injection of cryopreserved sperm into eggs has been proven to be effective for the maintenance of strains in mammals. The technique of artificial egg activation is a prerequi...
متن کاملFauna, Abundance, Distribution and Seasonal Activity of Anopheles Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in Larval habitats
Introduction: Mosquito – borne diseases are a major public health threat in the world, including Iran. This investigation was undertaken to determine fauna, distribution, frequency and monthly activity of Anopheles larvae in Aligoudarz County. Methods: This descriptive research was carried out during April to December 1997 to study Anopheles mosquitoes fauna and seasonal activity in seven...
متن کاملLarvicidial Effects of essential oil and methanol extract of Achilleawilhelmsii C. Koch (Asteraceae) against Anopheles stephensi Liston (Diptera: Culicidae), a malaria vector
Background: Mosquitoes are responsible for the transmission of many pathogens and parasites and consequently serious diseases in humans. Currently, application of plant derivatives has been suggested as an alternative bio-control technique for these medically important vectors. Methods: In this study the essential oil and methanol extract of Achilleaw...
متن کاملThe species composition of mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in the Mahshahr district, Khuzestan province, southwest of Iran
There is very little information about the mosquito fauna of Mahshahr district. The present study gives an overview of data on the species composition and distribution of mosquitoes in the Mahshahr district, Khuzestan province, southwest of Iran. In order to study the mosquito fauna, the samples were collected from May to November 2012 using dipping and total catch methods from seven villages (...
