Conformations of Uronic Acid Containing Polysaccharides

چکیده
Analyses of X-ray diffraction patterns obtained from ordered specimens of a variety of polyuronides have provided the opportunity to examine their molecular geometry in the condensed phase. A brief review is given of the simpler homopolysaccharide components of alginic acid, followed by the connective tissue polydisaccharides: hyaluronic acid, the chondroitin suiphates, dermatan sulphate, heparan sulphate and the blood anti-coagulant heparin. The interaction of these molecules with proteins and their molecular architecture in cartilage is mentioned. In addition some examples of the bacterial capsular polysaccharides are examined. In particular the three serotypes K5, K57 and K8 from Klebsiella.

Changes in Esterification of the Uronic Acid Groups of Cell Wall Polysaccharides during Elongation of Maize Coleoptiles.
Cell walls of grasses have two major polysaccharides that contain uronic acids, the hemicellulosic glucuronoarabinoxylans and the galactosyluronic acid-rich pectins. A technique whereby esterified uronic acid carboxyl groups are reduced selectively to yield their respective 6,6-dideuterio neutral sugars was used to determine the extent of esterification and changes in esterification of these tw...

Polyporus umbellatus is a medicinal fungus, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands years for treatment of edema, scanty urine, vaginal discharge, jaundice and diarrhea. The structure of a soluble polysaccharide (named PUP80S1), purified from the sclerotia of Polyporus umbellatus was elucidated by gas chromatography (GC), GC-mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance s...

The metabolism of myo-inositol-2-(14)C, d-glucuronate-1-(14)C, d-glucuronate-6-(14)C, and l-methionine-methyl-(14)C to cell wall polysaccharides was investigated in excised root-tips of 3 day old Zea mays seedlings. From myo-inositol, about one-half of incorporated label was recovered in ethanol insoluble residues. Of this label, about 90% was solubilized by treatment, first with a preparation ...

The metabolism of polysaccharides by pea stem segments treated with and without auxin was investigated using a centrifugation technique for removing solution from the free space of the cell wall. Glucose is the predominant sugar in both the ethanol-soluble and ethanol-insoluble fractions of the cell wall solution extracted with water. In the water-soluble, ethanol-insoluble polysaccharides, ara...
متن کاملCarbohydrate analysis by methanolysis method and application to compositional analysis of transparent exopolymer particles
Measurement of uronic acids (URAs) which are a group of acidic sugar, would be useful for the understanding of dynamics of bacterial extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in marine environments. However, the URA analysis using traditional hydrolysis method which is used for neutral sugar analysis poses serious problems in URA that is unstable under hydrolysis. We developed the methanolysis m...
