چکیده

This paper reviews quantum spin squeezing, which characterizes the sensitivity of a state with respect to SU(2) rotations, and is significant for both entanglement detection and high-precision metrology. We first present various definitions of spin squeezing parameters, explain their origin and properties for typical states, and then discuss spinsqueezed states produced with nonlinear twisting Hamiltonians. Afterward, we explain pairwise correlations and entanglement in spin-squeezed states, as well as the relations between spin squeezing and quantum Fisher information, where the latter plays a central role in quantum metrology. We also review the applications of spin squeezing for detecting quantum chaos and quantum phase transitions, as well as the influence of decoherence on spin squeezing. Finally,we review several experimental realizations of spin squeezing, as well as their corresponding theoretical backgrounds, including: producing spin-squeezed states via particle collisions in Bose–Einstein condensates, transferring photon squeezing to atomic ensembles, and generating spin squeezing via quantum nondemolition measurements. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. Entanglement and spin squeezing in the three-qubit transverse Ising model

We study entanglement and spin squeezing in the ground state of three qubits interacting via the transverse Ising model. We give analytical results for the entanglement and spin squeezing, and a quantitative relation between the concurrence, quantifying the entanglement of two spins, and the spin squeezing parameter, measuring the degree of squeezing. Finally, by appropriately choosing the exch...

Experimental Simulation of Spin Squeezing by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

We report on the experimental simulation of spin squeezing using a liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum information processor. This was done by identifying the energy levels within the symmetric subspace of a system of n spin-1/2 nuclei with the energy levels of the simulated spin-(n/2) system. The results obtained for our simulations of spin-1 and spin-3/2 systems are consiste...

Spin squeezing properties in the quantum kicked top model

We study spin squeezing, an intrinsically quantum property, in the quantum kicked top model exhibiting chaotic behaviours in the classical limit. We show that spin squeezing can reveal the underlying chaotic and regular structures in phase space given by a sphere with a unit radius, namely, spin squeezing vanishes after a very short time for an initial spin coherent state centred in a chaotic r...

Spin squeezing of high-spin, spatially extended quantum fields

Investigations of spin squeezing in ensembles of quantum particles have been limited primarily to a subspace of spin fluctuations and a single spatial mode in high-spin and spatially extended ensembles. Here, we show that a wider range of spin squeezing is attainable in ensembles of high-spin atoms, characterized by sub-quantum-limited fluctuations in several independent planes of spin-fluctuat...

Spin squeezing of atomic ensembles via nuclear-electronic spin entanglement.

We demonstrate spin squeezing in a room temperature ensemble of approximately 10(12) cesium atoms using their internal structure, where the necessary entanglement is created between nuclear and electronic spins of each individual atom. This state provides improvement in measurement sensitivity beyond the standard quantum limit for quantum memory experiments and applications in quantum metrology...
