چکیده

A major cause for dental resin composite restoration replacement is secondary caries attributed to Streptococcus mutans. Salivary esterases were shown to degrade resin composites. Hypothesis: S. mutans contain esterase activities that degrade dental resin composites and adhesives. Esterase activities of S. mutans were measured using synthetic substrates. Standardized specimens of resin composite (Z250), total-etch (ScotchbondMultipurpose, SB), and self-etch (Easybond, EB) adhesives were incubated with S. mutans UA159 for up to 30 days. Quantification of a bisphenol-glycidyl-dimethacrylate (BisGMA)-derived biodegradation by-product, bishydroxy-propoxy-phenyl-propane (BisHPPP) was performed using high performance liquid chromatography. Results: S. mutans were shown to contain esterase activities in levels comparable to human saliva. A trend of increasing BisHPPP release throughout the incubation period was observed for all materials and was elevated in the presence of bacteria vs. control for EB and Z250

In Vitro Comparison of the Effect of Nano-Hybrid Composite Resin and Amalgam on the Adhesion of Streptococcus Mutans

Background and Aim: Due to the increasing use of restorative materials, finding a suitable material with low adhesion rate and colonization of pathogenic Streptococcus mutans has a significant importance. The purpose of this study was the comparison of the adhesion rate of Streptococcus mutans to “Nano-hybrid composite” and “Amalgam” at 1, 3, and 7 day intervals. Method...

Quantitative determination of adhesion patterns of cariogenic streptococci to various orthodontic adhesives.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the adhesion of various cariogenic streptococci to orthodontic adhesives. MATERIALS AND METHODS Five light-cure orthodontic adhesives (one fluoride-releasing composite, three non-fluoride-releasing composites, and one resin-modified glass ionomer cement) were used. The adhesive type, bacterial strain, incubation time, and saliva coating were studied. Thirty specimens ...

In Vitro Properties of Orthodontic Adhesives with Fluoride or Amorphous Calcium Phosphate

This in vitro study evaluated the efficacy of orthodontic adhesives with fluoride or amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) in reducing bacterial adhesion and enamel demineralization. Forty human premolars each sectioned buccolingually into three parts were bracketed with control resin (Transbond XT) or adhesives containing ACP (Aegis Ortho) or fluoride (QuickCure). Artificial lesions induced by pH ...

Influence of surface properties of resin-based composites on in vitro Streptococcus mutans biofilm development.

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the influence of physicochemical surface properties of resin-based composites on Streptococcus mutans biofilm formation. Specimens were prepared from each of four resin-based composites by polymerization against Mylar strips. Half of the number of specimens received no further surface treatment, whereas the other half were subjected to a polishing ...

An In-Vitro Study of the Antibacterial Efficacy of Cavity Liners Against Streptococcus Mutans and Lactobacillus Casei

Background and aim: The main factor that influences the durability of dental restorations is secondary caries. Antibacterial activity of dental materials is important from the clinical aspect, as it might inhibit recurrent caries. The aim of the present study was to compare the antibacterial activity of four fluoride-releasing dental cavity liners against Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) and La...
