چکیده

The tremendous growth of polymer production since the middle of the twentieth century has been intimately connected with the development of new types of catalysts, A notable example in this regard is the field of poly olefin materials, While catalysts are also used in the production of other types of polymers, the properties of most of these materials are not particularly dependent on the type of catalyst employed, Many polycondensation reactions, e, g, the formation of polyesters, polyamides or urea-formaldehyde resins, are speeded up by addition of some Br0nsted or Lewis acids. Since relevant properties of these polymer products, such as their average chain lengths, are controlled by equilibrium parameters, primarily by the reaction temperatures and molar ratios of the monomers employed, and since their linkage patterns are dictated by the functional groups involved, addition of a catalyst has little leverage on the properties of the resulting polymer materials, For typical polyolefin materials, on the other hand, the most relevant properties depend in addition to the types and molar ratios of the monomers used quite critically on the catalyst used for their production, This is due to the large numbers of different structural elements which can be formed with practically equal free energies by polymerization reactions even of simple olefins such as ethylene and/or propylene (Figure 1), The proportions with which each of these concatenation patterns occurs in a particular polymer product are thus controlled by the relative rates of their formation, i,e, by the selectivity with which these patterns are produced in the course of the polymerization process employed, rather than by any equilibrium parameters.

The effect of iodo substituents in bis(phenoxyimine) zirconium complexes on the catalytic performance of homogeneous ethylene polymerization reactions

Eight different zirconium phenoxyimine complexes were synthesized, characterized and tested as catalysts for ethylene polymerization. The phenoxyimine compounds were prepared by condensation of substituted salicylaldehydes with aliphatic and aromatic amines, the substituted salicylaldehydes from ortho substituted phenols and paraformaldehyde. The introduction of iodo substituents was achieved e...

A New Approach for Monte Carlo Simulation of RAFT Polymerization

In this work, based on experimental observations and exact theoretical predictions, the kinetic scheme of RAFT polymerization is extended to a wider range of reactions such as irreversible intermediate radical terminations and reversible transfer reactions. The reactions which have been labeled as kinetic scheme are the more probable existing reactions as the theoretical point of view. The ...

Modeling of Reversible Chain Transfer Catalyzed Polymerization by Moment Equations Method

A moment equations method was performed to study the Reversible chain Transfer Catalyzed Polymerization (RTCP) of styrene in 80°C. To do this, a kinetic scheme containing conventional free radical polymerization reactions and equilibrium reactions of RTCP was assumed. After obtaining mass balance equations, three moment equations were defined for free and dormant radicals and dead chains. M...

Radical-Mediated Enzymatic Polymerizations

Polymerization reactions are commonly effected by exposing monomer formulations to some initiation stimulus such as elevated temperature, light, or a chemical reactant. Increasingly, these polymerization reactions are mediated by enzymes--catalytic proteins--owing to their reaction efficiency under mild conditions as well as their environmental friendliness. The utilization of enzymes, particul...

Simultaneous Monitoring of Polymer and Particle Characteristics during Emulsion Polymerization

Emulsion polymerization reactions constitute complex, nonequilibrium systems in which there is strong interaction between polymers, monomers, and the colloidal structures that mediate the reactions. A novel and general method was sought to monitor emulsion polymerization reactions. Instrumentation and methods were hence developed here to achieve, for the first time, simultaneous monitoring of t...

Nanodusty plasma chemistry: a mechanistic and variational transition state theory study of the initial steps of silyl anion-silane and silylene anion-silane polymerization reactions.

The growth of nanodusty particles, which is critical in plasma chemistry, physics, and engineering. The aim of the present work is to understand the detailed reaction mechanisms of early steps in this growth. The polymerization of neutral silane with the silylene or silyl anion, which eliminates molecular hydrogen with the formation of their higher homologues, governs the silicon hydride cluste...
