The effect of cations on the decarboxylation of oxalacetic acid.
نویسنده
چکیده
In connection with studies on the /3-keto acid carboxylases of plants (1, 2), the effects of metal ions on the decarboxylation of oxalacetic acid, in the presence and absence of enzyme, were studied. In confirmation of Krebs (3) the decarboxylation was found to be accelerated by a variety of polyvalent cations. It was also observed that the enzyme oxalacetic carboxylase from parsley roots, which is nearly inactive in the absence of metal ions, is activated by a variety of divalent cations.

Reaction 1 is catalyzed by an enzyme widely distributed in animal tissues and present in some plants (1). Oxalacetic carboxylase, which catalyzes Reaction 2, has been found in bacteria (2), pigeon liver (3), and, to some extent, in other animal tissues as well as in plants (4). Mehler et al.’ have partially purified this enzyme from Microcowus lysocleikticus. Acetoacetic carboxylase (Reaction 3...

Studies of the non-enzymatic decarboxylation of /3-keto acids have shown that it is the keto form of the 8-keto acid which loses CO2 to form an enol of the product. This was demonstrated for dimethylacetoacetic acid by Pedersen (1) and for dimethyloxalacetic acid by Steinberger and Westheimer (2). These latter authors studied the catalytic effect of metal ions on the decarboxylation reaction an...

In this study, bis(salicylaldehyde)-4-methyl-1,2-phenylenediimine (BSMP) as a Schiff base ligand of N2O2-type and its Mn and Fe complex as M-BSMP catalyst were synthesized and characterized by UV-Vis, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The efficiency of Fe- and Mn-BSMP catalysts was evaluated in the oxidative decarboxylation of arylacetic acids with tetra...
متن کاملThe Role of Biotin and Adenyltc Acid in Amino Acid Deaminases
Within the past year the mode of action of biotin has become increasingly clarified. The relation of this vitamin to oxalacetic acid decarboxylation was discovered independently in at least four laboratories (l-l), while its apparent role in the synthesis of oleic acid has been suggested by Williams et al. (5) and Snell et al. (6). Biotin has further been shown to activate the deamination of as...
