چکیده

Hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) is a benign liver tumor composed of hepatocytes. HCA represents a heterogeneous entity, and is subclassified into four groups according to genotype and phenotype: hepatocyte nuclear factor (HNF) 1α-inactivated HCA, β-catenin-activated HCA, inflammatory HCA, and unclassified HCA. Theses subtypes vary greatly in their clinical and pathological features. Identifying the HCA subtype is important because it represents a way to understand the prognosis of HCA in terms of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) transformation. We present a case of β-catenin-activated HCA and discuss the histopathological findings with a review of the literature.

β-Catenin Activated Hepatocellular Adenoma: A Report of Three Cases in Korea

Hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) is an uncommon benign hepatic tumor, and the use of oral contraceptives is known to contribute to the development of HCA. Recently, a genotype and phenotype classification system for HCA was suggested, and malignant transformation to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was shown to be strongly associated with activating mutations in β-catenin. Here, we report three cases...

Atypical β-Catenin Activated Child Hepatocellular Tumor

Hepatocellular adenomas are a benign, focal, hepatic neoplasm that have been divided into four subtypes according to the genetic and pathological features. The β-catenin activated subtype accounts for 10-15% of all hepatocellular adenomas and specific magnetic resonance imaging features have been defined for different hepatocellular adenomas subtypes. The current study aimed to report the magne...

Histological and Immunohistochemical Revision of Hepatocellular Adenomas: A Learning Experience

Light has been shed on the genotype/phenotype correlation in hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) recognizing HNF1 α -inactivated HCA (H-HCA), inflammatory HCA (IHCA), and β -catenin-activated HCA (b-HCA). We reviewed retrospectively our surgical HCA series to learn how to recognize the different subtypes histopathologically and how to interpret adequately their immunohistochemical staining. From Janua...

Pigmented hepatocellular adenoma with β-catenin activation: case report and literature review.

Hepatocellular adenomas (HCAs) are benign liver tumors recently characterized into 4 different types according to genetic, pathological and clinical features. The prognosis is not well established yet and malignant transformation has been recently associated with β-catenin activation. We aimed to describe a case of a pigmented HCA with β-catenin nuclear expression and inflammatory features and...

Retrospective study of hepatocellular adenomas based on the phenotypic classification system: A report from China.

A molecular and pathological classification system for hepatocellular adenomas (HCAs) was recently introduced in Europe, resulting in four major identified subgroups. Asian countries have a considerably lower incidence of HCA as well as a different etiology. We aimed to characterize HCAs in a Chinese population based on this new classification system. A series of 30 patients with HCA were analy...
