چکیده

Endothelial cell dysfunction is the early and key factor in the development of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis may be initiated by endothelial injury, which then leads to the proliferation of intimal smooth-muscle cells. Endothelin is present in plasma, perhaps as a result of spillover from the interface of endothelial and vascular smooth muscle1. Plasma endothelin concentrations are high in conditions associated with endothelial-cell injury In healthy individuals, the predominant effect of stimulation of the endothelium is vasodilation. But in the presence of risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemias and smoking, an imbalance between endothelium-derived constricting and relaxing factors results in endothelial dysfunction. It may be the cause or consequence of vascular disease and is a hallmark of known cardiovascular risk factors.

Circulating and tissue endothelin immunoreactivity in hypercholesterolemic pigs.

BACKGROUND Hypercholesterolemia is characterized by a coronary vasoconstrictive response to the endothelium-dependent vasodilator acetylcholine. This abnormality may be due to reduced synthesis of endothelium-derived relaxing factor and/or enhanced synthesis and release of an endothelium-derived contracting factor. Endothelin is an endothelium-derived vasoconstrictor and mitogenic peptide that ...

Evaluation of Extracellular Circulating Human MicroRNA-197 as a Target Biomarker in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

Background:  Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) refers to the reduction or blockage of all or part of the coronary arteries due to the process of atherosclerosis or the presence of a clot. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of serum miR-197 as a diagnostic index in patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: In this study, 100 patients with CAD were selected. Extraction of...

Endothelin: beyond a vasoconstrictor.

Almost 2 decades ago, endothelin-1 (ET-1) was identified as one of the most potent vasoconstrictors in the complex but well-balanced regulation of vascular tone.1 Since then, through numerous clinical and experimental investigations, it has become evident that ET-1, beyond its function as a vasoactive peptide, also plays a seminal role in the atherogenic process by enhancing mitogenesis and ind...

Receptor for advanced glycation end products involved in circulating endothelial cells release from human coronary endothelial cells induced by C-reactive protein

Objective(s): This study was designed to investigate the effect of receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE), S100A12 and C-reactive protein (CRP) on the release of circulating endothelial cells (CECs) from human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs). Materials and Methods: HCAECs were cultured in increasing concentration of CRP (0, 12.5, 25, 50μg/ml) or S100A12 protein (0, 4, 1...
