Hans U. Dahms, Supawadee Chullasorn, Pawana Kangtia, Frank D. Ferrari, and Jiang-Shiou Hwang (2007) Naupliar development of Tigriopus japonicus Mori, 1932 (Copepoda: Harpacticidae). Zoological Studies 46(6): 746-759. Six naupliar stages of Tigriopus japonicus Mori, 1932 are described from the rocky coast off Keelung, northeastern Taiwan. A key for the identification of stages is provided. Naupliar morphology within the Harpacticidae differs among species and even more at the supraspecific level. The present study on nauplii of Tigriopus japonicus confirms the observation that representatives of the Tachidiidae and Harpacticidae (Copepoda-Harpacticoida) show a peculiar reduction of the oral structures from N V to N VI. The nauplii of the Harpacticidae are creeping larvae, and many are not able to swim; however, nauplii of T. japonicus are an exception to this rule. http://zoolstud.sinica.edu.tw/Journals/46.6/746.pdf

The mitochondrial genomes of Amphiascoides atopus and Schizopera knabeni (Harpacticoida: Miraciidae) reveal similarities between the copepod orders Harpacticoida and Poecilostomatoida.
Members of subclass Copepoda are abundant, diverse, and-as a result of their variety of ecological roles in marine and freshwater environments-important, but their phylogenetic interrelationships are unclear. Recent studies of arthropods have used gene arrangements in the mitochondrial (mt) genome to infer phylogenies, but for copepods, only seven complete mt genomes have been published. These ...
متن کاملAcute and chronic toxicities of zinc pyrithione alone and in combination with copper to the marine copepod Tigriopus japonicus.
Zinc pyrithione (ZnPT) is a widely used booster biocide in combination with copper (Cu) in antifouling paints as a substitute for tributyltin. The co-occurrence of ZnPT and Cu in coastal marine environments is therefore very common, and may pose a higher risk to marine organisms if they can result in synergistic toxicity. This study comprehensively investigated the combined toxicity of ZnPT and...
متن کاملVariation in tolerance to common marine pollutants among different populations in two species of the marine copepod Tigriopus.
Geographical variation in chemical tolerance within a species can significantly influence results of whole animal bioassays, yet a literature survey showed that the majority of articles using bioassays did not provide detail on the original field collection site of their test specimens confounding the ability for accurate replication and comparison of results. Biological variation as a result o...
متن کاملModulation of Expression of Oxidative Stress Genes of the Intertidal Copepod Tigriopus japonicus after Exposure to Environmental Chemicals
The intertidal copepod Tigriopus japonicus has been recognized as a potential model species for toxicity testing of marine pollutants. In last five years or so sequence information and expression pattern of several genes critical in detoxification, stress, growth and reproduction have been described from T. japonicus. A number of genes, especially those representing antioxidant and detoxificati...
متن کاملBody Architecture and Relationships among Basal Copepods
Most copepods exhibit one of three kinds of body architecture: 1) six broad anterior trunk somites and five narrow posterior trunk somites of gymnopleans; 2) five broad anterior trunk somites and six narrow posterior trunk somites of many podopleans; or 3) four broad anterior trunk somites and seven narrow posterior trunk somites of thaumatopsylloids. A phylogenetic analysis using naupliar and ...
