Full simulation of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory proportional counters

چکیده
The third phase of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) experiment added an array of 3He proportional counters to the detector. The purpose of this neutral-current detection (NCD) array was to observe neutrons resulting from neutral-current solar-neutrino–deuteron interactions. We have developed a detailed simulation of current pulses from NCD array proportional counters, from the primary neutron capture on 3He through NCD array signalprocessing electronics. This NCD array MC simulation was used to model the alpha-decay background in SNO’s third-phase 8B solar-neutrino measurement.

An array of 3 He-filled proportional counters will be used in the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory to measure the neutral-current interaction of neutrinos and deuterium. We describe the backgrounds to this detection method.
متن کامل3Neutral Current Detectors for the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
Current solar neutrino experiments indicate the possibility of neutrino oscillations. These flavour oscillations can be confirmed or refuted by the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO), a 1,000 tonne heavy water Čerenkov detector presently under construction. This detector will measure the 8B νe flux and energy spectrum via a pure charge current reaction, and independently the 8B total ν flux via...

متن کاملResults from the Neutral Current Detector phase of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) was a heavy water Cerenkov detector designed to solve the long-standing “solar neutrino problem”; a discrepancy between the measured and predicted flux of electron-flavour solar neutrinos. SNO measured the rate of charged-current and neutral-current reactions of neutrinos in heavy water and was able to demonstrate that neutrinos from the Sun, produced in t...
متن کاملHOWTO use the SNO NCD Flux Results
This document provides technical details about the data presented in SNO’s NCD flux publication An Independent Measurement of the Total Active B Solar Neutrino Flux Using an Array of He Proportional Counters at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory [1]. It describes how SNO uses the data in this publication to produce its own MSW contour plots; as well as how someone can combine the SNO data with ot...
