Modeling of Heart Repolarization Using Realistic Action Potentials
نویسندگان
چکیده
A computer model for simulation of surface ECG that enables to study heart repolarization changes is introduced. It includes heart geometry and structure description, predefined elemental action potential forms and enables computation of ECG potentials on the surface of an inhomogeneous torso. The influence of the action potentials form on the STT part and T-wave of ECG signals is demonstrated.

Monophasic action potentials generated by bidomain modeling as a tool for detecting cardiac repolarization times.
Unipolar electrograms (EGs) and hybrid (or unorthodox or unipolar) monophasic action potentials (HMAPs) are currently the only proposed extracellular electrical recording techniques for obtaining cardiac recovery maps with high spatial resolution in exposed and isolated hearts. Estimates of the repolarization times from the HMAP downstroke phase have been the subject of recent controversies. Th...

Use of activation-recovery interval (ARI) in surface ECG leads as possible indicator of changed repolarization in the underlying myocardium was studied. Model ECG data representing normal and pathological myocardium repolarization were simulated on surface of realistic inhomogeneous torso. Results of simulations suggest that shortening and prolongation of action potentials in anterior myocardia...
متن کاملThe Impact of Action Potential and Conduction Velocity Distribution Changes on Markers of Repolarization Dispersion
A necessary prerequisite of malignant arrhythmias is the elevated repolarisation dispersion (RD) of the ventricular myocardium. In this study, by the use of numerical heart and thorax models the RD properties were analyzed as a function of realistic action potential duration (APD) and activation propagation velocity (CV) changes taken from recent experimental studies of normal and heart failure...
متن کاملNoninvasive Reconstruction of Epicardial Measures
Background—Dispersion of myocardial repolarization supports the development and maintenance of life-threatening arrhythmias. Current noninvasive approaches for detecting substrates with increased dispersion based on ECG measures (eg, QT dispersion) have shown limited success and inconsistencies. The companion article shows that, in contrast, epicardial potentials and derived measures reflect lo...
متن کاملSimulations of propagated mouse ventricular action potentials: effects of molecular heterogeneity.
The molecular heterogeneity of repolarizing currents produces significant spatial heterogeneity and/or dispersion of repolarization in many mammalian cardiac tissues. Transgenic mice are prominent experimental models for the study of the molecular basis of repolarization and arrhythmias. However, it is debated whether the small mouse heart can sustain physiologically relevant heterogeneity of r...
