چکیده

AFTER experiencing a very rewarding period of service, my term as the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (TMC) ends on 31 December 2016. It was an honor for me to guide and influence the technical growth related to a very timely area of research through the publications in the leading journal of mobile computing. Since the inception of TMC in 2002, we have come a long way and have published many influential papers in this journal. While enhancing the quality, we have strived to reduce the review time of the submitted papers. The continued success of TMC can be attributed first to the authors who submitted high quality manuscripts related to the advances in the area. The efforts and quality of suggestions and recommendations by the numerous reviewers are highly acknowledged. I also thank all of the Associate Editors serving on the Editorial Board for their efforts in getting timely reviews and helping me in making the decisions on the papers. A special thanks to Srikanth Krishnamurthy, who served in the role of Associate EIC, and to Lisa Jess from the IEEE whose continual help contributed heavily to the timely processing of the papers. She was very effective in her pursuance of the schedule and handled all correspondences. I also acknowledge the support from many other IEEE staff, including Jennifer Carruth, Kimberly Sperka, and Pilar Etuk. The TMC Steering Committee members were very helpful in guiding me through the initial phase of my role. My predecessor, Ramesh Govindan, shared all of the best practices that helped in easing my role. It is now my pleasure to introduce and welcome Marwan Krunz as the new EIC of TMC. Marwan is from the University of Arizona and has been an active researcher in various aspects of mobile computing. Marwan has played leadership roles at several conferences and other publications. Undoubtedly, TMC will continue to grow under his leadership. While wishing the very best to Marwan, I trust our authors, reviewers, and readers will continue to support TMC for years ahead.

"Passing on the Fire" to Communicate High-quality Scientific Knowledge for Biomedicine and Health Care.

This is my farewell editorial as editor of Methods of Information in Medicine, a journal of Schattauer Verlag [1]. After having had the pleasure and honour to work for this journal as editor for more than 14 years (cf. [2], p 495), it is now time for “transferring the helm” once again [3] and “passing on the fire” [4] to the next generation: the fire of serving to adequately communicate high-qu...

Minimization in interventional trials: great value but residual vulnerability.

In his commentary, Taves [1] has expressed the view that minimization should be the uniformly adopted way of assigning patients to treatments in comparative clinical trials, with a particular emphasis on the advantages of rank minimization. In advocating it as the ‘‘platinum standard,’’ Taves proposes that the question mark in the title of Treasure and MacRae’s [2] editorial is to be removed. M...
