چکیده

This paper treats the compression of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery. SAR images are di cult to compress, relative to natural images, because SAR contains an inherent high frequency speckle. Today's state-of-the-art coders are designed to work with natural images, which have a lower frequency content. Thus, their performance on SAR is under par. In this paper we give an overview performance report on the popular compressions techniques, and investigate three approaches to improve the quality of SAR compression at low-bit rates. First, we look at the design of optimal quantizers which we obtain by training on SAR data. Second, we explore the use of perceptual properties of the human visual system to improve subjective coding quality. Third, we consider the use of a model that separates the SAR image into structural and textural components. The paper concludes with a subjective evaluation of the algortihms based on the CCIR recommendation for the assesment of picture quality.

Implementation of VlSI Based Image Compression Approach on Reconfigurable Computing System - A Survey

Image data require huge amounts of disk space and large bandwidths for transmission. Hence, imagecompression is necessary to reduce the amount of data required to represent a digital image. Thereforean efficient technique for image compression is highly pushed to demand. Although, lots of compressiontechniques are available, but the technique which is faster, memory efficient and simple, surely...

Network-conscious Compressed Image Transmission over Battlefield Networks

We introduce an image compression and transmission system for battlefield networks. The system is based on network-conscious image compression, an approach to compression that does not simply maximize compression, but which optimizes overall performance when compressed images are transmitted over a lossy, packet-switched battlefield network. Using an Application Level Framing phdosophy, an imag...

Intelligent scalable image watermarking robust against progressive DWT-based compression using genetic algorithms

Image watermarking refers to the process of embedding an authentication message, called watermark, into the host image to uniquely identify the ownership. In this paper a novel, intelligent, scalable, robust wavelet-based watermarking approach is proposed. The proposed approach employs a genetic algorithm to find nearly optimal positions to insert watermark. The embedding positions coded as chr...

فشرده‌سازی تصویر با کمک حذف و کدگذاری هوشمندانه اطلاعات تصویر و بازسازی آن با استفاده از الگوریتم های ترمیم تصویر

Compression can be done by lossy or lossless methods. The lossy methods have been used more widely than the lossless compression. Although, many methods for image compression have been proposed yet, the methods using intelligent skipping proper to the visual models has not been considered in the literature. Image inpainting refers to the application of sophisticated algorithms to replace lost o...
