چکیده
BUMC PROCEEDINGS 2003;16:147–151 Crohn’s disease is one of 2 archetypes of chronic idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease, the other being ulcerative colitis. Crohn’s disease is defined by chronic inflammation that may involve any site of the gastrointestinal tract, from mouth to anus, most commonly the terminal ileum and proximal colon (1). Rarely, Crohn’s disease may affect the stomach and duodenum. The unusual clinical features of gastroduodenal Crohn’s disease and the various treatments available, including medical, endoscopic, and surgical, are discussed in this article.

Crohn's disease presenting as gastric outlet obstruction
We present a unique presentation of Crohn's disease in a 25-year-old male with a 3-month history of progressive gastric outlet obstruction symptoms including reflux, vomiting, postprandial pain and weight loss, with no other symptoms. Multiple imaging investigations as well as gastroscopic biopsies revealed a non-specific prepyloric lesion, without evidence of malignancy. A distal gastrectomy w...

The aim of this study was to correlate endoscopic, radiological and pathological observations in 30 patients with Crohn's disease, with involvement of the stomach and/or duodenum. The incidence of gastroduodenal involvement in our patients with Crohn's disease is about 3%. 22 of the 30 patients had intrinsic lesions of the stomach and/or duodenum; in 8 patients the lesions seemed to be produced...

The diagnosis was delayed for nearly 3 years andthen treatment with steroids and azathioprine resulted in rapid clinical improvement. The diag...
متن کامل99mTc-HMPAO leucocyte scintigraphy fails to detect Crohn's disease in the proximal gastrointestinal tract.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the use of (99m)Tc-HMPAO (hexamethyl propylene amine oxime) leucocyte scintigraphy as a non-invasive screening test for inflammatory bowel disease. PATIENTS 10 children with suspected Crohn's disease, in whom routine investigation using barium contrast radiology, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy, and mucosal biopsies had identified severe gastroduodenal a...
متن کاملCrohn's disease of the duodenum
Crohn's disease of the duodenum is uncommon, occurring in approximately 2% of patients with Crohn's disease. Approximately 165 cases have been reported in small series in the literature. Our report includes 36 patients, most of whom had symptoms of duodenal disease coincident with or after obvious disease elsewhere in the gastrointestinal tract, although occasionally duodenal disease developed ...
