The Find-Life-on-Mars Event
نویسنده
چکیده
Association for Artificial Intelligence Mobile Robot Competition and Exhibition featured robots trying to find and collect stationary and moving colored objects in an arena littered with real rocks. The 2day event had 11 entries participating in both single-robot and multirobot categories, both with and without manipulators. During the event, many of the robots successfully demonstrated object recognition, obstacle avoidance, exploration, and the collection and depositing of objects.

Finding Life on Mars, and Other Tasks for NCSU's Mobile Robots
The North Carolina State University (NCSU) team intends to participate in the 1997 Mobile Robot Competition and Exhibition ‘. This year marks our fourth entry in this competition. While there are many events in which we intend to compete, our primary focus is on the one entitled “Find Life on Mars”. We decided to concentrate most of our efforts on this event because it requires environment lear...
متن کاملSeismic Data Forecasting: A Sequence Prediction or a Sequence Recognition Task
In this paper, we have tried to predict earthquake events in a cluster of seismic data on pacific ring of fire, using multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS). The model is employed as either a predictor for a sequence prediction task, or a binary classifier for a sequence recognition problem, which could alternatively help to predict an event. Here, we explain that sequence prediction/r...
متن کاملThe Mojave Desert: a Martian Analog Site for Future Astrobiology
Introduction: Astrobiological interest in Mars is highlighted by evidence that Mars was once warm enough to have liquid water present on its surface long enough to create geologic formations that could only exist in the presense of extended fluvial periods. These periods existed at the same time life on Earth arose. If life began on Mars as well during this period, it is reasonable to assume it...
متن کاملIntelligent Sensor Fusioln for the 1997 AAAI Mobile obot Competition
The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) will field a team of undergraduates for two events in the 1997 AAAI Mobile Robot Competition: Life on Mars and HOTS D’oeuvres. The objectives of the team are (1) to gain experience with implementing behaviors under a hybrid deliberative/reactive style of architecture and (2) to transfer research being conducted at CSM in intelligent sensor fusion to new applic...
متن کاملRadiation resistance of sequencing chips for in situ life detection.
Life beyond Earth may be based on RNA or DNA if such life is related to life on Earth through shared ancestry due to meteoritic exchange, such as may be the case for Mars, or if delivery of similar building blocks to habitable environments has biased the evolution of life toward utilizing nucleic acids. In this case, in situ sequencing is a powerful approach to identify and characterize such li...
