چکیده

To quantitatively study the effects of nonlinear interactions on tide structure, a nonlinear numerical tidal model is developed, and the reliability and convergence of the adopted algorithm and coding are checked by numerical experiments. Under the same conditions as those employed by the GSWM-00 (Global Scale Wave Model 2000), our model provides the nonlinear quasi-steady solution of the migrating semidiurnal tide, which differs from the GSWM00 result (the linear steady solution) in the MLT region, especially above 100 km. Additionally, their amplitude difference displays a remarkable month-to-month variation, and its significant magnitudes occur during the month with strong semidiurnal tide. A quantitative analysis suggests that the main cause for the amplitude difference is that the initial migrating 12-h tide will interact with the mean flow as well as the nonlinearity-excited 6-h tide, and subsequently yield a new 12-h tidal part. Furthermore, our simulations also show that the mean flow/tidal interaction will significantly alter the background wind and temperature fields. The large magnitudes of the tidal amplitude difference and the background alteration indicate that the nonlinear processes involved in tidal propagations should be comprehensively considered in the description of global atmospheric dynamics in the MLT region. The comparisons among our simulations, the GSWMs and some observations of tides suggest that the nonlinearityinduced tidal structure variation could be a possible mechanism to account for some discrepancies between the GSWMs and the observations.

Tides in the Sea of Okhotsk

Eight major tidal constituents in the Sea of Okhotsk have been investigated using a numerical solution of tidal equations on a 59 space grid. The tides are dominated by the diurnal constituents. Diurnal tidal currents are enhanced in Shelikhov Bay and Penzhinskaya Guba, at Kashevarov Bank, in proximity to the Kuril Islands and at a few smaller locations. The major energy sink for diurnal tides ...

Nonlocal DQM for Large Amplitude Vibration of Annular Boron Nitride Sheets on Nonlinear Elastic Medium

One of the most promising materials in nanotechnology such as sensors, actuators and resonators is annular Boron Nitride sheets (ABNSs) due to excelled electro-thermo-mechanical properties. In this study, however, differential quadrature method (DQM) and nonlocal piezoelasticity theory are used to investigate the nonlinear vibration response of embedded single-layered annular Boron Nitride shee...

Seasonal variations of semidiurnal tidalperturbations in mesopause region temperature and zonal and meridional winds above Fort Collins, Colorado(40.6°N, 105.1°W)

[1] On the basis of Colorado State University (CSU) Na lidar observations over full diurnal cycles from May 2002 to April 2006, a harmonic analysis was performed to extract semidiurnal perturbations in mesopause region temperature and zonal and meridional winds over Fort Collins, Colorado (40.6 N, 105.1 W). The observed monthly results are in good agreement with MF radar tidal climatology for U...

A new perspective on the longitudinal variability of the semidiurnal tide

[1] The longitudinal variability of the semidiurnal tide in the Antarctic upper mesosphere is investigated by comparison of observations from two radars at approximately opposite sides of Antarctica. Under the assumption that the tide is composed of an S = 2 (migrating) and S = 1 (westward‐ propagating, non‐migrating) component only, the relative phases of the components are shown to vary with ...

Study of Current Profile in the Khuran Channel using ADCP Measurements

Thirteen repetitions of a cross-channel transect in the Khuran Channel within the Strait of Hormuz allowed the description of the mean flow and semidiurnal tidal properties of a north-south transect. Water velocity profiles were obtained with a 614.4 kHz TRDI Work Horse Broadband ADCP along this 3.3 km long transect on 10 October 2014, the third day of secondary spring tide. The M2, M4 and M6 f...
