چکیده

The morphological, cu1ωral, physiologicai and blochemical characteristics of a new actinomycete strain producing a new antibiotic, setamycin are described. The strain forms aerial mycelia. There is no fragmentation of vegetative mycelia. Since the cell wall type is a new one containhlg both LL-and meso-2,6-diaminopimelic acid, glyclne and galactose, strain KM6054could not be classified in any previously named genera of the order,Actinomycetales. Thus, it is considered to be a member of a new genus, for whlch the name Kitasatosporia is proposed. The type species(monotype)of this genus is K.setalba. The type strain of K. setalba is strain KM-6054(ATCC 33774).

Streptomyces Tyrosinase: Production and Practical Applications

Tyrosinases (monophenol, o-diphenol:oxygen oxidoreductase, EC (1.14.18.1) are copper-containg enzymes which catalyze the o-hydroxylation of monophenols and subsequent oxidation of o-diphenols to quinones. The enzymes are involved in the pigmentation and are important factors in wound healing and primary immune response. Tyrosinases are found in prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, in mamm...

Culture-dependent and culture-independent diversity within the obligate marine actinomycete genus Salinispora.

Salinispora is the first obligate marine genus within the order Actinomycetales and a productive source of biologically active secondary metabolites. Despite a worldwide, tropical or subtropical distribution in marine sediments, only two Salinispora species have thus far been cultivated, suggesting limited species-level diversity. To further explore Salinispora diversity and distributions, the ...

Accumulation of iron-binding phenolic acids by Actinomycetales and other organisms related to the Mycobacteria.

After growth of representatives of eight genera in the order Actinomycetales and two others related taxonomically to Mycobacterium under iron-deficient conditions, the following compounds were found in the media : salicylic and phenylacetic acids, but no mycobactin, with Thermoactinomyces vulgaris; 2,3dihydroxybenzoic acid with Corynebacterium equi, Mycococcus sp., Nocardia opaca and Streptospo...

Geodermatophilus, a new genus of the Dermatophilaceae (Actinomycetales).

Organisms having a complex life cycle similar to the animal pathogen Dermatophilus congolensis have been isolated from soils of the United States. The soil isolates grow readily on agar media producing a black, friable, or sooty colony; in broth, the isolates produce a thick sediment with a clear supernatant fluid and occasionally a black surface pellicle. The generic taxon Geodermatophilus is ...
