Illumination-based Nighttime Video Enhancement Using Wavelet Transform

In this paper, we propose a novel approach to improve the visual appearance of nighttime video. The proposed method firstly converts the video from RGB color space to YCbCr color space, and then Y component is extracted to enhance illumination using a new image fusion method, which uses wavelet transform. Secondly, low-pass Gaussian filter is used to resolve vague areas problems of the enhanced background and moving regions. Last, the enhanced frames are reconstructed to RGB color space by combining the enhanced intensity component and corresponding color component. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach is effective and competitive.
