چکیده

Streptococcus milleri species are found in normal oral flora, upper respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, and they have also been isolated from vagina. S. milleri organisms are associated with pyogenic infections and they either result in isolated infections or are a part of mixed pyogenic infections. Most commonly, they are associated with dental and periodontal abscess, nasopharyngeal infections, brain abscess, liver and intraabdominal abscess and lung abscess. Rarely, they result in musculoskeletal abscess, splenic abscess and pericarditis.

Epidural abscess caused by Streptococcus milleri in a pregnant woman

BACKGROUND Bacteria in the Streptococcus milleri group (S. anginosus, S. constellatus, and S. intermedius) are associated with bacteremia and abscess formation. While most reports of Streptococcus milleri group (SMG) infection occur in patients with underlying medical conditions, SMG infections during pregnancy have been documented. However, SMG infections in pregnant women are associated with ...

Streptococcus milleri liver abscesses associated with leiomyosarcoma of the ileum.

A number of case reports of pyogenic liver abscess due to Streptococcus milleri have appeared in recent years (Bateman, Eykyn and Phillips, 1975; Reid and Davidson, 1976). The source of infection has either not been apparent or has been localised to the gastrointestinal tract. We describe a case of multiple abscesses in a man who turned out to have a malignant small bowel tumour, an association...

Lung abscesses in 2 patients with Lancefield group F streptococci (Streptococcus milleri group).

Lung abscess presents as a circumscribed accumulation of pus in the lungs, which is more common in patients predisposed to aspiration, immunosuppressed patients, and patients with chronic lung disease, malignancies, or diabetes mellitus.1 Lung abscess is also associated with dental caries, alcohol abuse, and uncontrolled epilepsy. Many reports associate lung abscess with the presence of anaerob...

Streptococcus intermedius, Streptococcus constellatus, and Streptococcus anginosus ("Streptococcus milleri group") are of different clinical importance and are not equally associated with abscess.

Difficulties in distinguishing organisms of the "Streptococcus milleri group" (SMG; Streptococcus intermedius, Streptococcus constellatus, and Streptococcus anginosus), have caused ambiguity in determining their pathogenic potential. We reviewed 118 cases in which SMG isolates had been identified using 16S rDNA sequence. S. constellatus and S. anginosus were isolated far more frequently than wa...
