Leibniz on Concepts and Their Relation to the Senses1

چکیده
Despite holding that all concepts are strictly speaking innate, Leibniz attempts to accommodate the common belief that at least some concepts are adventitious by appealing to his theory of ideal action. The essential idea is that an innate concept can be considered adventitious, in a sense, just in case its ideal cause is to be found outside the mind of the one who possesses the concept. I explore this attempt at accommodation and argue that it fails.

متن کاملPerfection, Power and the Passions in Spinoza and Leibniz

That is, why or how are these concepts tied to each other? And, why have so few ...

متن کاملOn Reduced Semantics for Fuzzy Predicate Logics
Our work is a contribution to the model-theoretic study of equality-free fuzzy predicate logics. We present a reduced semantics and we prove a completeness theorem of the logics with respect to this semantics. The main concepts being studied are the Leibniz congruence and the relative relation. On the one hand, the Leibniz congruence of a model identifies the elements that are indistinguishable...
