A Logic for Constant-Depth Circuits
نویسندگان
چکیده
Consider a family of boolean circuits C~, C2,..., C,,..., constructed by some uniform, effective procedure operating on input n. Such a procedure provides a concise representation of a family of parallel algorithms for computing boolean values. A formula of first-order logic may also be viewed as a concise representation of a family of parallel algorithms for evaluating boolean functions. The parallelism is implicit in the quantification (a formula gx q~(x) is true if and only if each of the formulas q~(a) is true, and all these formulas can be checked simultaneously), and universes of different sizes give rise to boolean functions with different numbers of inputs (the boolean values of the formula's predicates on various combinations of elements of the universe). This note presents an extended first-order logic designed to be exactly equivalent in expressiveness to polynomialsize, constant-depth, unbounded-fan-in circuits constructed by Turing machines of bounded computational complexity. © 1984 Academic Press, Inc.

Reversible Logic Multipliers: Novel Low-cost Parity-Preserving Designs
Reversible logic is one of the new paradigms for power optimization that can be used instead of the current circuits. Moreover, the fault-tolerance capability in the form of error detection or error correction is a vital aspect for current processing systems. In this paper, as the multiplication is an important operation in computing systems, some novel reversible multiplier designs are propose...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Reversible Sequential Circuits Based on Carbon NanoTube Field Effect Transistors (CNTFETs)
This study presents the importance of reversible logic in designing of high performance and low power consumption digital circuits. In our research, the various forms of sequential reversible circuits such as D, T, SR and JK flip-flops are investigated based on carbon nanotube field-effect transistors. All reversible flip-flops are simulated in two voltages, 0.3 and 0.5 Volt. Our results show t...
متن کاملDefinability by Constant-Depth Polynomial-Size Circuits
A function of boolean arguments is symmetric if its value depends solely on the number of l 's among its arguments. In the first part of this paper we partially characterize those symmetric functions that can be computed by constant-depth polynomial-size sequences of boolean circuits, and discuss the complete characterization. (We treat both uniform and non-uniform sequences of circuits.) Our r...

OF THE DISSERTATION On Circuit Complexity Classes and Iterated Matrix Multiplication by Fengming Wang Dissertation Director: Eric Allender In this thesis, we study small, yet important, circuit complexity classes within NC, such as ACC and TC. We also investigate the power of a closely related problem called Iterated Matrix Multiplication and its implications in low levels of algebraic complexi...
متن کاملA Minimal-Cost Inherent-Feedback Approach for Low-Power MRF-Based Logic Gates
The Markov random field (MRF) theory has been accepted as a highly effective framework for designing noise-tolerant nanometer digital VLSI circuits. In MRF-based design, proper feedback lines are used to control noise and keep the circuits in their valid states. However, this methodology has encountered two major problems that have limited the application of highly noise immune MRF-based circui...
متن کاملEfficient Genetic Based Methods for Optimizing the Reversible and Quantum Logic Circuits
Various synthesis methods have been proposed in the literature for reversible and quantum logic circuits. However, there are few algorithms to optimize an existing circuit with multiple constraints simultaneously. In this paper, some heuristics in genetic algorithms (GA) to optimize a given circuit in terms of quantum cost, number of gates, location of garbage outputs, and delay, are proposed. ...
