چکیده

Northwest Borneo orogene. The shelf widens to more than 300 km toward the south in Sarawak and measures about 100 km in the north in Sabah. Structural deformation is most severe onshore and decreases toward the offshore, where all the currently producing East Malaysian fields are located. The two largest offshore oil fields, the Baronia field in northern Sarawak and the Samarang field in southern Sabah, are both situated in areas characterized by synsedimentary tectonics. Production is from upper Miocene coastal-plain and coastal sands, which have been charged with hydrocarbons from land-plant-derived source rocks. The large gas fields are located offshore central Sarawak, and the gas is trapped in upper Miocene carbonate reefs.

Holocene Climate and Climate Variability of the Northern Gulf of Mexico and Adjacent Northern Gulf Coast: A Review

Marine records from the northern Gulf of Mexico indicate that significant multidecadaland century-scale variability was common during the Holocene. Mean annual sea-surface temperature (SST) during the last 1,400 years may have varied by 3C, and excursions to cold SST coincide with reductions in solar output. Broad trends in Holocene terrestrial climate and environmental change along the eastern...

Monthly climatology of the continental shelf waters of the South Atlantic Bight

Monthly circulation of the South Atlantic Bight is diagnosed using a 3-D, shallow water, finite element model forced with monthly wind stress and hydrographic climatology. Temperature and salinity observations from the period 1950-99 are objectively interpolated onto the model domain, and Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (COADS) wind velocities from 1975-1999 are used to prescribe the mo...

Surface trajectories of oil transport along the Northern Coastline of the Gulf of Mexico

After the destruction of the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform during the spring of 2010, the northern Gulf of Mexico was threatened by an oil spill from the Macondo well. Emergency responders were concerned about oil transport in the nearshore, where it threatened immediately the fishing waters and coastline from Louisiana to Florida. In this region, oil movement was influenced by a continen...

Report of a Physical Oceanography Research Project over the Southern Continental Shelf of the Caspian Sea

Abstract The study presents monthly variations of seawater properties, monitoring water column stability and stratification over the southern shelf of the Caspian Sea which depends on collecting data. Field measurements were carried out during 13 cruises along the southern boundary of the sea. Spatial and temporal distributions of temperature, salinity and density were investigated. Monthl...

2.4 Sea Surface Temperature Patterns on the West Florida Shelf Using Growing Hierarchical Self-organizing Maps

The West Florida Shelf (WFS) is a broad, gently sloping continental margin that is influenced by the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current system located seaward of the shelf break (Molinari et al., 1977; Huh et al., 1981; Paluszkiewicz et al., 1983; He and Weisberg, 2003; Weisberg and He, 2003) and by local wind and buoyancy forcing, including the fresh water of the Mississippi River, generally found at...
