چکیده
Epidemic and endemic cholera is a major public health problem and continues to be an important cause of morbidity and mortality in developing world. The causative agent V. cholerae O1 and since 1992 V. cholerae O139 is capable of pandemic spread (Levine et al., 1993). Seven distinct pandemics of cholera have been recorded since 1817 (Kaper et al., 1995).The eighth pandemic was suspected when a new serotype O139 was emerged as an epidemic strain and spread from Chenai to other parts of the country and Bangladesh (Kaper et al., 1995; Ramamurthy et al., 1993). The causative agent of the sixth and perhaps the fifth pandemic belonged to the classical biotype of V. cholera (Kaper et al., 1995). The seventh pandemic was caused by V. cholera O1 El Tor biotype. After its emergence in the Island of Sulawesi of Indonesia, it spread to Indian subcontinent and reached other countries including Latin America through different routes. Rapid spread of Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor variant in Odisha, Eastern India, in 2008 and 2009.
The emergence and spread of Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor variant strains causing severe diarrhea has been witnessed worldwide in recent years. In the state of Odisha, India, the spread of the V. cholerae O1 El Tor variant strains was studied during outbreaks in 2008 and 2009. Analysis of 194 V. cholerae O1 Ogawa strains revealed that V. cholerae O1 El Tor variant strains are spreading gradually th...

Background & Objective: Vibrio cholerae is a natural inhabitant of the environment and causes severe diarrhea ailments (cholera) that affects thousands of people each year worldwide. The most important virulence factors of this pathogen are cholera toxin (cholera toxin CT) and Type IV...
متن کاملEmergence of Tetracycline Resistant Vibrio cholerae O1 Biotype El Tor Serotype Ogawa with Classical ctxB Gene from a Cholera Outbreak in Odisha, Eastern India
In September 2010, a cholera outbreak was reported from Odisha, Eastern India. V. cholerae isolated from the clinical samples were biochemically and serologically confirmed as serogroup O1, biotype El Tor, and serotype Ogawa. Multiplex PCR screening revealed the presence of various genes, namely, ompW, ctxB, zot, rfbO1, tcp, ace, hlyA, ompU, rtx, and toxR, in all of the isolates. The isolates w...

There was an inexplicable upsurge in the incidence of non-O1, non-O139 Vibrio cholerae among hospitalized patients admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Calcutta, India, between February and March 1996. Of the 18 strains of V. cholerae isolated during this period, 15 belonged to the non-O1, non-O139 serogroups (4 belonged to O144, 3 belonged to O11, 1 each belonged to O6, O8, O12, O19, ...
متن کاملDetermination of ctxAB expression in Vibrio cholerae Classical and El Tor strains using Real-Time PCR
Cholera is an infection of the small intestines caused by the bacterium V. cholerae. It is a major cause of health threat and also a major cause of death worldwide and especially in developing countries. The major virulence factor produced by V. cholerae during infection is the cholera toxin. Total mRNA extraction and reverse transcription was performed for making ctxAB cDNA. Relative Real-Time...
