A Java Interactive Pedagogical Tool for Experimenting with Neural Circuits

چکیده
6 This project aims to develop an online user interface to 7 implement simple user designed neural circuits to serve as 8 demonstration and education material for high school and 9 college level students and educators. The user interacts with a 10 graphical user interface (GUI) which on the front end allows 11 the user to assemble, probe, and alter simple neural circuits; 12 while on the back end the GUI implements the FitzHugh13 Nagumo neuron model in Java as a system of alterable point 14 neurons with adjustable connection matrices and a low-order 15 differential equation solver to allow for real-time computation 16 and visualization of action potential generation and 17 propagation. This interface can serve as a demonstration of the 18 complex nonlinear interactions that drive neurons, while 19 increasing understanding of how the brain works on a cellular 20 and computational level in a way accessible to the general 21 public. The final aim is the publication of the GUI online, 22 where users can interact with it, and increasing the complexity 23 of the model and interface to demonstrate more complex 24 behaviors and greater user definability. 25

Visualization of neural networks using Java applets
During the last decade, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have reached maturity and established themselves as a useful tool for information processing, especially for complex data, where prior knowledge and models are limited. Unfortunately, ANNs are themselves also complex, usually consisting of many interconnected non-linear processing units (neurons), what makes them hard to inspect and anal...
متن کامل2sp Online Sessions through Java Servlets
This paper presents a new, coprocess-based service for servlet-enabled web servers that allows for establishing online client sessions with an interactive program on the server computer. This service, implemented by an HTTP Java servlet, is designed for experimenting online with prototypical implementations of the interactive program. It provides an enhanced support for research interactions vi...
متن کاملAn Interactive Tool for Outdoor Computer Controlled Cultivation of Microalgae in a Tubular Photobioreactor System
This paper describes an interactive virtual laboratory for experimenting with an outdoor tubular photobioreactor (henceforth PBR for short). This virtual laboratory it makes possible to: (a) accurately reproduce the structure of a real plant (the PBR designed and built by the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Almería, Spain); (b) simulate a generic tubular PBR by changing ...
متن کاملTwo-stage Programming via the Client-servlet-coprocess Interaction Model
This paper presents the client-servlet-coprocess interaction model, a new form of the client-server model. The client-servlet-coprocess model uses an HTTP Java servlet to specialize a servlet-enabled Web server to provide on-line client sessions with an interactive program run as a coprocess for the servlet. This model is designed for experimenting online with prototypical implementations of th...
