چکیده

This paper presents a robust and reliable method for a mobile robot to get on/off an elevator in a multistory building. Getting on/off the elevator requires the robot to perform two different tasks: a recognition task and a navigation task. First, we propose a recognition algorithm for the elevator buttons and status so that the robot reacts flexibly to the current elevator status. We first apply an adaptive threshold to the current image in order to get a binary image. Then we extract the candidates of the buttons and the floor number after preliminary filtering. Ambiguous candidates are rejected using an artificial neural network, and a matching method is applied to finally recognize the call buttons, destination floor buttons, moving direction and current location of the elevator. Second, we suggest a path planning algorithm to navigate into and out of the elevator without any collision. By constructing an occupancy grid map and computing a target function, we find the best position for the robot to get on the elevator. Then we plan an optimal path to the best position using a potential field method. Experiments were carried out in several simulated and real environments including empty, crowd and blocked scenarios. The approach presented here has been found to allow the robot to navigate in the elevator without collisions.

Effective Mechatronic Models and Methods for Implementation an Autonomous Soccer Robot

Omni directional mobile robots have been popularly employed in several applications especially in soccer player robots considered in Robocup competitions. However, Omni directional navigation system, Omni-vision system and solenoid kicking mechanism in such mobile robots have not ever been combined. This situation brings the idea of a robot with no head direction into existence, a comprehensi...

Linear Time Varying MPC Based Path Planning of an Autonomous Vehicle via Convex Optimization

In this paper a new method is introduced for path planning of an autonomous vehicle. In this method, the environment is considered cluttered and with some uncertainty sources. Thus, the state of detected object should be estimated using an optimal filter. To do so, the state distribution is assumed Gaussian. Thus the state vector is estimated by a Kalman filter at each time step. The estimation...

Adaptive Automata for Independent Autonomous Navigation in Unknown Environment

Adaptive automata have been developed as a formal device intended to handle complex input languages, featuring context dependencies. As other adaptive formalisms, adaptive automata collect information from its inputs and may change its own behavior in response to that information. Therefore, such formalisms are able to dynamically acquire and represent knowledge. Independent navigation require ...

Solving a Path Planning Problem in a Partially Known Environment using a Swarm Algorithm

This paper proposes a path planning strategy for an Autonomous Ground Vehicle (AGV) navigating in a partially known environment. Global path planning is performed by first using a spatial database of the region to be traversed containing selected attributes such as height data and soil information from a suitable spatial database. The database is processed using a biomimetic swarm algorithm tha...
