چکیده
This paper deals with traac shaping performed at the ATM Adaptation Layer (AAL). First, the application of a shaping scheme based on the Generic Cell Rate Algorithm is discussed. Later on, a mathematical model for the traac shaping scheme at the AAL using message mode is introduced. Finally, with the use of the mathematical model some results related to the performance of the shaping scheme applied in workstations running a le transfer application are presented.

Scalable Architectures for Integrated Traffic Shaping and Link Scheduling in High-Speed ATM Switches
| Emerging broadband switches must accommodate the diverse traac parameters and quality-of-service requirements of voice, data, and video applications. End-to-end performance guarantees depend on connections complying with traac contracts as their cells travel through the network. This paper presents a leaky-bucket shaper architecture that scales to a large number of connections with diverse bu...
متن کاملEfficient Fair Queueing for ATM Networks Using Uniform Round Robin
In this paper, we investigate scheduling algorithms that are suitable for ATM networks. In ATM networks, atl packets have a fixed small length of 53 bytes and they are transmitted at very high rate. Therefore a time complexity of a scheduling algorithm is quite important. Most scheduling algorithms proposed so far have a complexity of O (log iV) per packet, where N denotes the number of connect...
متن کاملShaper Dimensioning for MAN to ATM based WAN
This paper considers the dimensioning of the traffic shaping buffer in an Interworking Unit used to interconnect DQDB based MANs over a broadband ATM network. The first part of the paper presents an exact solution for the cell loss probability in the shaper, using an (M/D/1)/D/1/K queueing model. The second part of the paper examines the suitability of such Poissonian arrival assumptions, first...
متن کاملBounds for the tail distribution in a queue with a superposition of general periodic Markov sources: theory and application
An efficient yet accurate estimation of the tail distribution of the queue length has been considered as one of the most important issues in call admission and congestion controls in ATM networks. The arrival process in ATM networks is essentially a superposition of sources which are typically bursty and periodic either due to their origin or their periodic slot occupation after traffic shaping...
متن کاملAchieving End-to-end Delay Bounds by EDF Scheduling without Traffic Shaping
Earliest Deadline First scheduling with per-node traffic shaping (RC-EDF) has the largest schedulable region among all practical policies known today and has been considered a good solution for providing end-to-end packet delay bounds. In order to harness the traffic burstiness inside a network to satisfy the schedulability condition of EDF, pernode traffic shaping has been believed to be neces...
