Alloy destabilization by dislocations

چکیده
Thermodynamic phase diagrams of alloys are usually computed or experimentally determined under the assumption of perfect crystallinity of the material. Here, we show that dislocations can change the phase stability of alloys and increase the size of the miscibility gap. This dislocation-induced destabilization of the alloy originates from an interaction between the elastic fields of the dislocations and those due to composition variations. We predict that the characteristic time scale for the growth of compositional fluctuations depends inversely on the dislocation mobility. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. fDOI: 10.1063/1.1922578g

DISLOCATIONS STRUCTURE AND SCATTERING PHENOMENON IN CRYSTALLINE CELL SIZE OF 2024 AL ALLOY DEFORMED BY ONE PASS OF ECAP AT ROOM TEMPERATURE
Variation in microstructural features of 2024 aluminum alloy plastically deformed by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) at room temperature, was investigated by X-Ray diffraction in this work. These include dislocation density dislocation characteristic and the cell size of crystalline domains. Dislocations contrast factor was calculated using elastic constants of the alloy such as C 11, C 2...

Abstract: powerful method for the characterization of microstructures of crystalline materials in terms of crystallite size anddislocation structures. In this paper the effect of the sliding on the microstructure of A356 in the as-cast and heattreated conditions are studied, The X-ray phase analysis shows that with increasing applied load, the dislocationdensity is increased, whereas the crysta...
متن کاملLocal decomposition induced by dislocation motions inside precipitates in an Al-alloy
Dislocations in crystals are linear crystallographic defects, which move in lattice when crystals are plastically deformed. Motion of a partial dislocation may remove or create stacking fault characterized with a partial of a lattice translation vector. Here we report that motion of partial dislocations inside an intermetallic compound result in a local composition deviation from its stoichiome...

In this study, a wide range of combined ageing treatments and cold work deformations in the Al 4.2 wt% Ag alloy matrix were proposed, aiming to investigate the effect of defects such as precipitates (Ag2Al plates) and dislocations on the mechanical and electrochemical behavior of Al–4.2 wt% Ag alloys. Further reductions of thickness from 10 to 60%, decreases the mean size of Ag2...
