چکیده

Plastoquinol dibenzyl-32P-phosphate was prepared by reduction of plastoquinone with dibenzyl-32P-phosphonate. Catalytic hydrogenation of the product resulted in the reduction of the polyisoprenoid side chain as well as debenzylation. Substantial reduction was also observed with the use of nuclear magnetic resonance for a number of naturally occurring quinones with conditions recommended for quinol phosphate synthesis. Previous studies with the use of reductive debenzylation with naturally occurring quinones did not consider this possibility. The double bond /3 ,y to the quinonoid ring was found to be more resistant to reduction, and the degree of saturation of the side chain could be partially controlled. The results of biological incorporation experiments carried out with quinol phosphates prepared by this route need to be interpreted in terms of these results. They are particularly relevant to the presumed participation of the isoprenoid double bond ,LI ,y to the quinonoid ring in oxidative phosphorylation.

Chemical Studies concerning the Possible Role of Chromanyl Phosphates and Quinones in Oxidative Phosphorylation.

In the case of vitamin Kr, anaerobic incubation of the quinone with an electron donor and a Alycobacterium phlei preparation yielded a reduced phosphorylated derivative (3) which underwent enzymatic autoxidation to vitamin K with release of inorganic phosphate; this was stated to be a naphthochromanyl phosphate. The 6-chromanyl phosphate (111) of vitamin K1c20) has been synthesized (10) and sho...

Studies on novel polycyclic heterocycles: synthesis of new naphthaquinoxaline and naphthazaquinoxaline derivatives from naturally occurring quinones

A facile synthesis of novel polycyclic heterocycles namely naphthaquinoxaline and naphthazaquinoxaline derivatives is carried out by the reaction of lapachol and β-lapachone, naturally occurring naphthoquinones with o-phenylene diamine and 2,3-diaminopyridine. Regioselectivity in the reaction of β-lapachone with 2,3-diaminopyridine is confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction of a represent...

Interactive of arsenate and phosphate on arsenic-induced oxidative stress in root of Isatis cappadocica Desv.

In present study, growth, arsenic accumulation, and antioxidant responses in root of Isatis cappadocica were investigated in response to application of arsenate and phosphate. Reduction in root dry weights was significant with 1200 µM arsenate and 5 µM phosphate treatments. Phosphate had a steady effect on root dry weight improvement, especially in high arsenate treatments ≥ 200 μM. As concentr...

Effect of Nucleotides on Enzymic Browning in Potato Slices.

Freshly cut slices darken as a result of oxidation of endogenous phenols in reactions catalyzed by polyphenol oxidase. Ascorbic acid, thiols, and other reducing substances prevent enzymic darkening (5, 17). Earlier studies showed that ATP substantially decreased browning in plant tissues, apparently via the reduction of quinones (14). ATP itself is not a reducing agent. The reducing compound is...
