The late atlantoaxial subluxation in a patient with juvenile idiopathic arthritis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Atlantoaxial instability has been described as a manifestation of ankylosing spondylitis (juvenile and adult onset), reactive arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis; however, it has rarely been reported as an early manifestation of these disorders (1). Instability of the atlantoaxial joint may lead to impingement on the cord and brainstem. There may also be cephalad encroachment of the odontoid into the foramen magnum. Locke and colleagues studied the atlanto-odontoid distance in 200 normal children aged 3 to 15 years, but the age and sex were not significant factors (2-4).

Atlantoaxial subluxation as an early manifestation in an adolescent with undifferentiated spondyloarthritis: a case report and review of the literature
INTRODUCTION Atlantoaxial instability has been described as a manifestation of ankylosing spondylitis (juvenile and adult onset), reactive arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis; however, it has rarely been reported as an early manifestation of these disorders. We present this case report to increase awareness of the condition in the hope that earlier recognition of ...
متن کاملDominant vertebral artery injury during posterior atlantoaxial transarticular screw fixation in a juvenile rheumatoid arthritis patient with atlantoaxial subluxation.
Many authors have reported on iatrogenic vertebral artery (VA) injury, but, to our knowledge, this is the first report of a dominant VA injury with compensatory blood flow from the hypoplastic VA. A 23-year-old woman with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and atlantoaxial subluxation sustained injury to her dominant VA after occipitocervical fusion using transarticular screws. This did not result i...

متن کاملCan we rely on magnetic resonance imaging when evaluating unstable atlantoaxial subluxation?
OBJECTIVES To examine whether functional radiography and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are equally efficient in detecting the extent of unstable anterior atlantoaxial subluxation (aAAS) in rheumatic patients. METHODS 23 patients with unstable aAAS (diagnosed by functional radiography) were examined by functional MRI because of a neck symptom. Twenty two patients had rheumatoid a...
متن کاملSyringomyelia associated to rheumatoid-atlantoaxial subluxation: about a new case
We report a case of 64-year-old Tunisian woman with a 12-year history of rheumatoid arthritis, who presented with a 3-month history of increasing inflammatory neck pain. Neurological examination noted a quadripyramidal syndrome without any neurological deficit. Radiographs of her neck showed ananterior atlantoaxial subluxation (A). MRI revealed a pannus around the atlanto axial joint. It also s...
