Numerical and Experimental Studies on PBEs in OpenFOAM Environment

چکیده
The population balance model which was developed and verified in the FeatFlow environment has been implemented into OpenFOAM software package. Sulzer CompaxTM mixer is numerically studied with the developed computational tool. The numerical results have been compared with experimental ones and the results have been found to be in good agreement. An interesting experimental finding, decreasing Sauter mean diameter of the droplet ensembles with increasing holdup of the secondary phase, has been investigated and explained with the population balance model coupled CFD simulations in 3D.

Dimensional Similarity in the Study of Microbubble Production Inside Venturi Tube
The present study considers of the water and air flow and Micro-Bubble production inside the venturi tube, by the use of dimensional analysis. Numerical analysis of Micro-Bubble creation in venturi tube requires fast computers and large amounts of storage space. Up to now, there has been no numerical analysis concerning Micro-Bubble creation and all other existing studies are experimental. To s...
متن کاملDirect injection of methane in advanced propulsion systems: effects of thermodynamic conditions
The direct injection of gaseous fuels involves the presence of under-expanded jets due to the high pressure-ratios and the strong gas compressibility. Understanding the physical development of such processes is essential for developing Direct Injection (DI) devices suitable for application in internal combustion engines fueled by methane or hydrogen. In this work a coupled experimental-numerica...
متن کاملPerformance assessment of OpenFOAM and FLOW-3D in the numerical modeling of a low Reynolds number hydraulic jump
A comparative performance analysis of the CFD platforms OpenFOAM and FLOW-3D is presented, focusing on a 3D swirling turbulent flow: a steady hydraulic jump at low Reynolds number. Turbulence is treated using RANS approach RNG k-ε. A Volume Of Fluid (VOF) method is used to track the airewater interface, consequently aeration is modeled using an EulerianeEulerian approach. Structured meshes of c...
متن کاملNumerical Methods to Simulate Turbulent Dispersed Flows in Complex Geometries
Population Balance is a prominent ingredient of modeling transport phenomena. Population Balance Equations (PBEs) are coupled to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate turbulent dispersed flows. One of the arising challenges is to obtain an appropriate discretization technique for the internal coordinate of PBEs, so the resulting equations can lead to acceptable solutions with affordabl...
متن کاملA three-dimensional numerical model to estimate the fall velocity of sediment particles
The fall velocity of sediment particles plays a key role in sediment transport studies. Researchers have attempted to determine the terminal fall velocity, and most of the studies in this regard have been based on experimental, quasi-experimental, and in-situ measurements. The present study aimed to use a numerical model to estimate the fall velocity of a single sediment particle in distilled a...
