چکیده

We develop a multigrid, multiple time stepping scheme to reduce computational efforts for calculating complex stress interactions in a strike-slip 2D planar fault for the simulation of seismicity. The key elements of the multilevel solver are separation of length scale, grid-coarsening, and hierarchy. In this study the complex stress interactions are split into two parts: the first with a small contribution is computed on a coarse level, and the rest for strong interactions is on a fine level. This partition leads to a significant reduction of the number of computations. The reduction of complexity is even enhanced by combining the multigrid with multiple time stepping. Computational efficiency is enhanced by a factor of 10 while retaining a reasonable accuracy, compared to the original full matrix-vortex multiplication. The accuracy of solution and computational efficiency depend on a given cut-off radius that splits multiplications into the two parts. The multigrid scheme is constructed in such way that it conserves stress in the entire half-space.

Smoke Simulation for Fire Engineering using a Multigrid Method on Graphics Hardware

We present a GPU–based Computational Fluid Dynamics solver for the purpose of fire engineering. We apply a multigrid method to the Jacobi solver when solving the Poisson pressure equation, supporting internal boundaries. Boundaries are handled on the coarse levels, ensuring that boundaries will never vanish after restriction. We demonstrate cases where the multigrid solver computes results up t...

A Parallel AMG Solver for An Electromagnetic Finite Element Analysis

The algebraic multigrid (AMG) method is not only efficient in solving for linear systems arising in finite element analyses, but also applicable at a matrix level without geometric information on the domain, different from the geometric multigrid solvers. The present paper proposes a combination of the parallel processing technique and the AMG method as a fast solver for electromagnetic field a...

Three Dimensional Monte Carlo Device Simulation with Parallel Multigrid Solver

We present the results in embedding a multigrid solver for Poisson's equation into the parallel 3D Monte Carlo device simulator, PMC-3D. First we have implemented the sequential multigrid solver, and embedded it into the Monte Carlo code which previously was using the sequential successive overrelaxation (SOR) solver. Depending on the convergence threshold, we have obtained signi cant speedups ...

A parallel algebraic multigrid solver for finite element method based source localization in the human brain

Time plays an important role in medical and neuropsychological diagnosis and research. In the field of Electroand MagnetoEncephaloGraphy (EEG/MEG) source localization, a current distribution in the human brain is reconstructed noninvasively by means of measured fields outside the head. High resolution finite element modeling for the field computation leads to a sparse, large scale, linear equat...
