Dichotic listening pattern in conduction aphasia.

چکیده
Judging from classic postmortem reports (cf., Goldstein, 1948; Kleist, 1952; Benson et al., 1973) and from recent studies using CT scanning (Damasio & Damasio, 1979a), conduction aphasia is often associated with damage to the left cortical auditory complex (the primary areas, Brodmann’s fields 41 and 42, and the association area, field 22). It follows that arrival of auditory input in the left temporal lobe via the geniculo-cortical pathway must be precluded or greatly diminished in patients with that syndrome and that conduction aphasics should show a marked extinction to verbal stimuli presented to the right ear in a dichotic listening (DL) task. We report two instances of patients with conduction aphasia in whom there was complete right channel extinction in a verbal DL task, and discuss the functional significance of the phenomenon.

Central conduction time in auditory brainstem response and ear advantage in dichotic listening across menstrual cycle
The ovarian hormones fluctuate during the menstrual cycle in women. Such fluctuation of sex hormones, in particular estrogen, is believed to affect the central conduction time in auditory function as well as the language lateralization in cognitive function. However, findings are inconsistent. The underlying mechanisms are also unclear. This paper examined if there was any relation between the ...
متن کاملDeep left parietal lobe syndrome: conduction aphasia and other neurobehavioural disorders due to a small subcortical lesion.
A patient with sudden onset of conduction aphasia in the context of an ischaemic stroke is reported. Other neurological and neuropsychological findings included bilateral ideomotor apraxia, right hemisensory defect and paradoxical left ear extinction on a dichotic listening test. Lesion location, as inferred from magnetic resonance imaging, involved a restricted subcortical area in the left par...
متن کاملSpeech dominance is a better predictor of functional brain asymmetry than handedness: a combined fMRI word generation and behavioral dichotic listening study.
An unresolved issue in behavioral studies of hemispheric asymmetry is why both left-handers and right-handers show a right ear advantage at the group level. In the present study we screened left-handers for left- versus right-hemisphere speech dominance with fMRI by comparing right versus left hemisphere frontal lobe activity (in Broca's area) in a silent word generation task. A left hemisphere...
متن کاملPattern of Language Impairment in Aphasic Patients Applying the P-DAB-1 Test
Background and purpose: The Persian Diagnostic Aphasia Battery (P-DAB-1) is one of the tests available for screening and determining the severity of aphasia. The test classifies the patients in seven major diagnostic classes based on the extent of the impairment in different linguistic modalities. The present study aimed to describe the pattern of linguistic impairment in four aphasic patients ...
