Thermodynamics of quantum Hall ferromagnets.

چکیده
The two-dimensional interacting electron gas at Landau level filling factor ν = 1 and temperature T = 0 is a strong ferromagnet; all spins are completely aligned by arbitrarily weak Zeeman coupling. We report on a theoretical study of its thermodynamic properties using a many-body perturbation theory approach and concentrating on the recently measured temperature dependence of the spin magnetization. We discuss the interplay of collective and single-particle aspects of the physics and the opportunities for progress in our understanding of itinerant electron ferromagnetism presented by quantum Hall ferromagnets. A review of quantum thermodynamics
In this article, we present a brief and elementary review of quantum thermodynamics and its achievements and challenges. This review includes an introduction to some fundamental concepts such as internal energy, heat, work, entropy, entropy production, thermal equilibrium, second law of quantum thermodynamics, relation between thermodynamics and information theory, as well as a discussion of ho...
متن کاملDissipative Transport in Quantum Hall Ferromagnets by Spinwave Scattering
We report on a study of the effect upon electrical transport of spinwave scattering from charged quasiparticles in ν = 1 quantum Hall ferromagnets (QHFs), including both Heisenberg (single layer) and easy-plane (bilayer) cases. We derive a quantum Langevin equation to describe the resulting diffusive motion of the charged particle and use this to calculate the contribution to low temperature co...
متن کاملHartree-Fock Theory of Skyrmions in Quantum Hall Ferromagnets
We report on a study of the charged-skyrmion or spin-texture excitations which occur in quantum Hall ferromagnets near odd Landau level filling factors. Particle-hole symmetry is used to relate the spin-quantum numbers of charged particle and hole excitations and neutral particle-hole pair excitations. Hartree-Fock theory is used to provide quantitative estimates of the energies of these excita...
متن کاملSkyrmions and Quantum Hall Ferromagnets in Improved Composite-Boson Theory
An improved composite-boson theory of quantum Hall ferromagnets is proposed. It is tightly related with the microscopic wave-function theory. The characteristic feature is that the field operator describes solely the physical degrees of freedom representing the deviation from the ground state. It presents a powerful tool to analyze excited states within the lowest Landau level. Excitations incl...
متن کاملSkyrmion dynamics and NMR line shapes in quantum Hall ferromagnets
The low-energy charged excitations in quantum Hall ferromagnets are topological defects in the spin orientation known as Skyrmions. Recent experimental studies on nuclear magnetic resonance spectral line shapes in quantum well heterostructures show a transition from a motionally narrowed to a broader ‘‘frozen’’ line shape as the temperature is lowered at fixed filling factor. We present a Skyrm...
