Goodell holds firm on Senate bid battles against Agnew and polls

Agnew and runn ing beh ind in th e polls, said last n igh t th a t he will rem ain in th e N ew Y ork Senate race and will n o t le t any ­ one run him o u t o f th e R epub­ lican Party. “ I have sto o d fo r e lec tion to th e U.S. Senate and I shall con ­ tin u e to s tan d fo r e lec tion to the U.S. S ena te ,” G oodell said in a televised speech. “ I th ink I can w in .” G oodell said earlier in the day his television address w ould be “ ex trem ely im p o rta n t,” se tting o ff specu lation th a t he m ight w ithdraw from th e th ree way race as th e on ly chance of defeating W hite H ouse favorite Jam es L. B uckley, th e C onserva­ tive Party cand ida te . G oodell said som e had sug­ gested he w ithdraw and suppo rt som eone else, b u t he said he w ould n o t because “ I ’ve been a R epublican all m y life .” “ W hatever happens in this e lec tion I’m n o t going to le t any­ one tu rn me o u t o f th e R epub li­ can P a rty ,” he said.
