Detecting artifact anomalies in business process specifications with a formal model
نویسندگان
چکیده
Many business process analysis models have been proposed, however there are few discussions for artifact usages in workflow specifications. A well-structured business process with sufficient resources might fail or yield unexpected results dynamically due to inaccurate artifact specification, e.g. an inconsistency between artifact and control flow, or contradictions between artifact operations. This paper, based on our previous work, presents a model for describing the input/output of a workflow process and analyzes the artifact usages upon the model. This work identifies and formulates thirteen cases of artifact usage anomalies affecting process execution and categorizes the cases into three types. Moreover, the methods for detecting these anomalies with time complexities O(n), less than O(n) in previous methods, are presented. Besides, the paper uses an example to demonstrate the processing of them. 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Process-Centric Views of Data-Driven Business Artifacts
Declarative, data-aware workflow models are becoming increasingly pervasive. While these have numerous benefits, classical process-centric specifications retain certain advantages. Workflow designers are used to development tools such as BPMN or UML diagrams, that focus on control flow. Views describing valid sequences of tasks are also useful to provide stake-holders with highlevel description...
متن کاملA novel use of equivalent mutants for static anomaly detection in software artifacts
Context: In mutation analysis, a mutant of a software artifact, either a program or a model, is said equivalent if it leaves the artifact meaning unchanged. Equivalent mutants are usually seen as an inconvenience and they reduce the applicability of mutation analysis. Objective: Instead, we here claim that equivalent mutants can be useful to de ne, detect, and remove static anomalies, i.e., de ...
متن کاملArtifact-Centric Business Process Models in UML
Business process modeling using an artifact-centric approach has raised a significant interest over the last few years. This approach is usually stated in terms of the BALSA framework which defines the four “dimensions” of an artifact-centric business process model: Business Artifacts, Lifecycles, Services and Associations. One of the research challenges in this area is looking for different di...
متن کاملStatic Analysis of Business Artifact-centric Operational Models: Extended Version∗
Business Artifacts are the core entities used by businesses to record information pertinent to their operations. Business operational models are representations of the processing of business artifacts. Traditional process modeling approaches focus on the actions taken to achieve a certain goal (verb-centric).Business artifact-centric modeling starts by identifying what is acted upon (noun-centr...

One of the areas with greatest needs having available information at the right moment and with high accuracy is healthcare. Right information at right time saves lives. Healthcare is a vital domain which needs high processing power for high amounts of data. Due to the critical and the special characteristics of these systems, formal methods are used for specification, description and verificati...
