Optimising Eden by transformation

چکیده
Eden is a parallel extension of Haskell allowing the programmer to explicitly specify which expressions must be evaluated as parallel processes. Eden is implemented by modifying the Glasgow Haskell Compiler (GHC). This decision has saved a lot of work but has also produced some drawbacks: Some optimizing transformations done by GHC are not convenient for Eden, either because they spoil its semantics or because they negatively aaect its eeciency. The paper explains how to circumvent these drawbacks and also how to add our own optimizing analysis and transformation steps in order to generate a (correct and) better parallel code.

Dynamic Chunking in Eden
Parallel programming generally requires awareness of the granularity and communication requirements of parallel subtasks, since without precaution, the overhead for parameter and result communication may outweigh the gain of parallel processing. While this problem is often solved explicitly at the language level, it can also be alleviated by optimising message passing mechanisms in the runtime ...

متن کاملGenerating and Optimising Views from Both as View Data Integration Rules
This paper describes the generation and logical optimisation of views in the AutoMed heterogeneous data integration framework, which is based on the use of reversible schema transformation sequences called both as view (BAV) rules. We show how views can be generated from such sequences, for global as view (GAV), local as view (LAV) and GLAV query processing. We also present techniques for optim...
