Face recognition in low resolution thermal images
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper proposes an accurate, rotation invariant, and fast approach for detection of facial features from thermal images. The proposed approach combines both appearance and geometric information to detect the facial features. A texture based detector is performed using Haar features and AdaBoost algorithm. Then the relation between these facial features is modeled using a complex Gaussian distribution, which is invariant to rotation. Experiments show that our proposed approach outperforms existing algorithms for facial features detection in thermal images. The proposed approach’s performance is illustrated in a face recognition framework, which is based on extracting a local signature around facial features. Also, the paper presents a comparative study for different signature techniques with different facial image resolutions. The results of this comparative study suggest the minimum facial image resolution in thermal images, which can be used in face recognition. The study also gives a guideline for choosing a good signature, which leads to the best recognition rate. 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Face Recognition in Thermal Images based on Sparse Classifier
Despite recent advances in face recognition systems, they suffer from serious problems because of the extensive types of changes in human face (changes like light, glasses, head tilt, different emotional modes). Each one of these factors can significantly reduce the face recognition accuracy. Several methods have been proposed by researchers to overcome these problems. Nonetheless, in recent ye...
متن کاملMulti-frame Super Resolution for Improving Vehicle Licence Plate Recognition
License plate recognition (LPR) by digital image processing, which is widely used in traffic monitor and control, is one of the most important goals in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). In real ITS, the resolution of input images are not very high since technology challenges and cost of high resolution cameras. However, when the license plate image is taken at low resolution, the license...
متن کاملFusion of Thermal Infrared and Visible Images Based on Multi-scale Transform and Sparse Representation
Due to the differences between the visible and thermal infrared images, combination of these two types of images is essential for better understanding the characteristics of targets and the environment. Thermal infrared images have most importance to distinguish targets from the background based on the radiation differences, which work well in all-weather and day/night conditions also in land s...
متن کاملLow Resolution Face Recognition Using a Two-Branch Deep Convolutional Neural Network Architecture
We propose a novel coupled mappings method for low resolution face recognition using deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs). The proposed architecture consists of two branches of DCNNs to map the high and low resolution face images into a common space with nonlinear transformations. The branch corresponding to transformation of high resolution images consists of 14 layers and the other bran...
