Multi-objective Optimal Placement with Multi-type Facts Devices for Thai Power System

-In this paper, multi-objective optimal placement (MOOP) of multi-type flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices for Thailand power system is proposed. Four types of FACTS devices are used: thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC), thyristor-controlled phase shifter (TCPS), unified power flow controller (UPFC), and static var compensator (SVC). The problem is decomposed into the optimal placement of muti-type FACTS devices subproblem that is searched by the hybrid tabu search (TS) and simulated annealing (SA) approach and the multi-objective optimal power flow (MOOPF) with multi-type FACTS subproblem that is also solved by hybrid TS/SA approach. Test results indicate that the hybrid TS/SA approach is efficiently used to simultaneously minimize the generator fuel cost and violation function in MOOP with multi-type FACTS devices on the EGAT 160 bus system. Furthermore, four multi-type FACTS devices of MOOP can increase the load factor with less than 10% of line limit and voltage limit violations. Keywords--FACTS, Optimal placement, Optimal Power Flow, Simulated Annealing, Tabu Search optimal locations of TCSC, thyristor-controlled phase shifting transformer (TCPST), thyristor-controlled voltage regulator (TCVR) and SVC on the IEEE 118 bus system [9]. One unified problem was performed on three parameters: locations, types and parameter settings. It could maximize the system loadability by treating branch loading and voltage level limits in a soft manner. The total generator fuel cost was not considered in the objective function.
