Development of a Digital Image Projection Technique to Measure Wind-Driven Water Film Flows

چکیده
Digital fringe projection (DFP) profilometry has been widely used to generate threedimensional (3D) surface information. In this work, a novel 3D shape measurement system based on DFP technique is proposed for accurate and quick thin film/rivulet flow measurement. The key concept of the technique is making use of digital image correlation (DIC) algorithm to direct calculate the projected grid points’ displacements. In comparison to fourier transformation based DFP system, it gives more accurate measurement result without rigid image quality requirement. This technique was applied to characterization of wind-driven thin film/rivulet flows that were formed in an open circuit wind tunnel. The film thickness and surface wave frequency had been evaluated for variety of wind speeds and flow rates. The results show that this technique successfully revealed the dynamic motion features of thin film flows.

Quantification of transient behavior of wind-driven surface droplet/rivulet flows using a digital fringe projection technique
A digital fringe projection (DFP) system is developed to achieve non-intrusive thickness measurements of wind-driven water droplet/rivulet flows over a test plate to quantify the unsteady surface water transport process pertinent to various atmospheric icing phenomena. The DFP technique is based on the principle of structured light triangulation in a similar manner as a stereo vision system but...

Icing is widely recognized as one of the most serious weather hazards to aircraft operations. Aircraft icing occurs when small, super-cooled, airborne water droplets, which make up clouds and fog, freeze upon impact with a surface, which results in the formation of ice (Mason 1971). The freezing can be complete or partial, depending on how rapidly the latent heat of fusion can be released into ...

Thin film flows naturally arise in a wide variety of industrial and environmental problems ranging from microchip manufacturing, structured packing to lava flows in geology. In particular, wind-driven flows of liquid films are of great interests for deeper understanding of aircraft icing and better design of anti-icing and de-icing strategies. Currently, most thickness mapping techniques involv...

In this article, an experimental investigation has been conducted to characterize the instantaneous thickness of the surface water film driven by high-speed airflow pertinent to aerodynamic icing and anti-icing modeling. Non-intrusive results of the film flowing on a metal plate were obtained using the high-speed camera and confocal chromatic technique. The wind speed (Ua) ranges from 17.8 m/s ...
متن کاملProcessing Digital Image for Measurement of Crack Dimensions in Concrete
The elements of the concrete structure are most frequently affected by cracking. Crack detection is essential to ensure safety and performance during its service life. Cracks do not have a regular shape, in order to achieve the exact dimensions of the crack; the general mathematical formulae are by no means applicable. The authors have proposed a new method which aims to measure the crack dimen...
