A numerical study of turbulent flame speed models for H2/CH4/Air premixed combustion

چکیده
This study has assessed the validity of the commercially available turbulent flame speed models within ANSYS Fluent as applied to hydrogen/methane/air combustion, with 5 different fuel compositions considered from 100% methane to 100% hydrogen. It was found that existing turbulent flame speed models were capable of producing accurate predictions up to 60% hydrogen with the Zimont model being the best performing model. However beyond 60% hydrogen content the accuracy of the predictions degraded dramatically. As a result of this attempts were made to improve the results by tuning the Zimont turbulent flame speed constant, however this produced minimal improvement in the results. Finally a modification was developed and used in tandem with the exponential effective Lewis number term taken from literature, this elicited a significant improvement in the results at 80% and 100% hydrogen.

The objective of this work was to investigate the influence of preferential diffusion on flame structure and propagation of lean-premixed hydrogen-carbon monoxide syngas-air flame at elevated pressure using direct numerical simulation (DNS) and detailed chemistry. The physical problem investigated is lean-premixed H2/CO outwardly propagating turbulent spherical flame at constant pressure of 4ba...
متن کاملRadiation and Nitric Oxide Formation in Turbulent Non-premixed Jet Flames
Radiative heat transfer has a significant effect on nitric oxide (NO) formation in turbulent non-premixed flames. Consequently, predictive models of turbulent non-premixed flames must include an accurate radiation submodel. To investigate the importance of radiation submodels in modeling NO formation, multiscalar measurements of temperature and species were coupled with radiation measurements i...
متن کاملTransient Combustion Modeling of an Oscillating Lean Premixed Methane/air Flame
The main objective of the present study is to demonstrate accurate low frequency transient turbulent combustion modeling. For accurate flame dynamics some improvements were made to the standard TFC combustion model for lean premixed combustion. With use of a 1D laminar flamelet code, predictions have been made for the laminar flame speed and the critical strain rate to improve the TFC (Turbulen...
متن کاملProperties of Lean Turbulent Methane-Air Flames With Significant Hydrogen Addition
We examine the combustion of mixed H2-CH4-air fuels using two-dimensional simulations that incorporate detailed kinetics and a mixture-averaged model for differential species transport. The mixtures range from lean H2-air at φ=0.37 to lean CH4-air at φ=0.7. For each mixture, we compute the quasi-steady propagation of a flame into flow with superimposed low-level turbulent fluctuations. We exami...

The scalar mixing time scale, a key quantity in many turbulent combustion models, is investigated for reactive scalars in premixed combustion. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of three-dimensional, turbulent Bunsen flames with reduced methane-air chemistry have been analyzed in the thin reaction zones regime. Previous conclusions from single step chemistry DNS studies are confirmed regarding ...
