A Scalable Protocol for Reporting Periodically Using Multicast IP
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a protocol that controls the members of a multicast group that send periodically status reports to all members. The protocol, called Multicast Access Protocol (MAP), limits the number of concurrent multicast reports as the group size becomes large. MAP is a decentralised protocol that provides an access control mechanism to an IP multicast group. The protocol supports members joining and leaving the group dynamically as well as changes in the underlying network topology. MAP is a self-con guring mechanism and requires every member to keep only local information independent of the group size. We describe the protocol both formally and informally.

Host Multicast: A Framework for Delivering Multicast To End Users
While the advantages of multicast delivery over multiple unicast deliveries is undeniable, the deployment of the IP multicast protocol has been limited to “islands” of network domains under single administrative control. Deployment of inter-domain multicast delivery has been slow due to both technical and administrative reasons. In this paper we propose a Host Multicast Tree Protocol (HMTP) tha...
متن کاملScalable Island Multicast for Peer-to-Peer Streaming
Despite the fact that global multicast is still not possible in today’s Internet, many local networks are already multicast-capable (the so-called multicast “islands”). However, most application-layer multicast (ALM) protocols for streaming have not taken advantage of the underlying IP multicast capability. As IP multicast is more efficient, it would be beneficial if ALM can take advantage of s...
متن کاملA Novel Architecture for Secure and Scalable Multicast over IP Network
Currently, multicast services can be implemented at the IP layer or the application layer. While IP multicast violates the stateless paradigm of Internet and incurs great difficulties to congestion and flow control, application-layer multicast is lack of scalability due to the unreliability and resource constraints of end-hosts. Moreover, security is a main weakness in Internet-wide group commu...
متن کاملScalable Internet multicast routing
In distributed network applications such as multiparty teleconferencing, users often need to send the same message to several other users. To achieve such one-to-many or many-to-many communication eeciently in wide-area internetworks, it is imperative to support mul-ticast, i.e., concurrent sending of messages from one source to multiple receivers. The current IP architecture for multicast rout...
