چکیده
I. INTRODUCTION Throughout the world it may be economically possible to cultivate crops that can be harvested for the manufacturing of biofuels that could potentially have a significant impact result in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. Use of renewable fuels such as bio-fuels can also reduce the US dependence on foreign energy sources. Plasma enhanced reforming is a promising approach for vehicular application involving onboard generation of hydrogen-rich gas (H 2 , CO, light hydrocarbons) from renewable energy biofuels. The hydrogen-rich gas can be used in internal combustion engine vehicles to increase engine efficiency and reduce pollution

Psfc-ja-03-28 Plasma Catalytic Reforming of Biofuels
Vegetable oils and ethanol have been used in a plasmatron reformer to generate synthesis gas. Corn, canola, and soybean oils and ethanol have been reformed at different oxygen to carbon ratios and different power levels. Both homogeneous plasma reforming (uncatalyzed) and catalytic plasma reformer have been evaluated.

Diesel plasmatron reformer technology can provide substantial throughputs without the need of using a catalyst The use of the special plasma facilitates robust noncatalytic conversion of diesel fuel into hydrogen rich gas with hydrogen yields that could be sufficient for NOx trap regeneration applications. Higher yields can be obtained with the use of a catalyst. Plasmatron reformers could also...
متن کاملPSFC/JA-05-49 Startup characteristics of plasmatron gasoline reformers
The startup characteristics of plasmatron reformers with gasoline fuel for the generation of hydrogen rich gas is discussed. A brief set of experiments has been carried out at a single fuel and air flow rate. The air/fuel mixture preparation, especially the implications of the gasoline vaporization, has been modeled using a CFD code.

Plasmatron fuel converters have been investigated for the conversion of a wide range of fuels. This paper is a series of papers describing an experimental and computational study of plasmatron methane reformers. This paper presents a model that uses limited mixing and chemical kinetics to investigate the plasma assisted reforming of natural gas. The Partially Stirred Reactor (PaSR) model from t...
متن کاملPSFC/JA-05-21 In-Cylinder Laminar Flame Propagation Speed: Effect of Hydrogen And Hydrogen Rich Gas Addition
In this paper, the implication of various grades of hydrogen rich gas on the in-cylinder flame speed, and on the knock propensity, are discussed. The laminar flame propagation speed of methane with various grades of hydrogen-rich gas addition has been calculated. The effect of adding hydrogen, hydrogen rich gas from an ideal reformer (synthesis gas), as well as that from a non-catalytic plasmat...
