Expressing inflection tonally

چکیده
Limburg dialects of Dutch have two distinctive tonal contours on syllables with primary stress. These tones are traditionally called Schleifton (‘dragging tone’) and Stosston (‘bumping tone’), but here we will use the terms ‘level high tone’ and ‘falling tone’.1 The tones fall on the stressed syllable in the word, and serve to distinguish between minimal pairs. The following examples are from the Maasbracht dialect (which has been extensively studied by Hermans, 1994):

متن کاملThe Tonal-metric Hierarchy: a Corpus Analysis
DESPITE THE PLETHORA OF RESEARCH ON THE ROLE of tonality and meter in music perception, there is little work on how these fundamental properties function together. The most basic question is whether the two hierarchical structures are correlated – that is, do metrically stable positions in the measure preferentially feature tonally stable pitches, and do tonally stable pitches occur more often ...

The interpretation of written Mandarin monosyllables presented in tonally unspecified pinyin was investigated for 22 native speakers. Results showed a preference for high relative lexical frequency and, to a lesser extent low homophone density candidates, with some interaction between these two factors: where one candidate in a homophone cohort had a particularly high frequency, cohort density ...

According to contemporary opinion emotional reactions to syntactic violations are due to surprise as a result of the general mechanism of prediction. The classic view is that, the processing of musical syntax can be explained by activity of the cerebral cortex. However, some recent studies have indicated that subcortical brain structures, including those related to the processing of emotions, a...

The logistic, Gompertz, Richards and asymmetric logistic growth curve models were fitted to body weight data of local Ghanaian chickens and French SASSO T44 chickens. All four growth models provided good fit for each sex by genotype growth data with R2 values ranging from 86.7% to 96.7%. The rate constant parameter, k, ranged between 0.137 and 0.271 and were significantly different from zero fo...
